First new signing of 2022/2023

All things Wolves is a bit slow at present which means creating a page to avoid the site falling off the web is a challenge!! Nevertheless, it appears we are very close to our first new signing of this season .... that is, a player brand new to the squad? Could this be, as widely reported, Nathan Collins?

21 year old Nathan Collins is a right sided centre back who signed for Burnley last season from Stoke City. The fee is reported to be £20.5M, which would be a new record for an Irish player beating, by coincidence, the fee paid to Spurs by Liverpool for our very own Robbie Keane in 2008 Irish Independent

As indicated, completion of the deal needs to be confirmed, however Collins, reported as highly rated, has now played a total of six times for the Republic of Ireland national team and scoring once. In his first full season with Burnley he made 22 appearance in all competitions (19 in the premier league).

We all realise that strengthening the squad is of vital importance, in all areas of the pitch, let's hope this is the first potential announcement of many.

At last, we have signed someone and by all accounts a bit of a coup, a player who whilst young and with limited Premiership experience seems very capable and will improve season by season. Welcome to the pack Nathan.

Signing players from relegated teams is the transfer policy from the days of Morgan/ Moxey . If we accept Raul is finished as a premier league striker, we literally have no proper strikers as it stands. The midfield consists of a geriatric Mourinho, Ruben and dendonker.. unless we sign at least 2 midfielders and a couple of strikers, I predict a relegation battle The manager will get unfairly slated, probably sacked with the new guy coming in saving us from relegation heralded as a hero is my prediction. We will then be hearing about next summer being a "crucial window" in a groundhog day playout.

True , we have gone for players relegated (Fletcher for example).
Nevertheless, good to see anyone over twelve years old coming in.
And Nathan wants us to be pushing for European football, so there you go.
Meantime while Fosun , highly indebted and desperate not to offend their masters in the Communist party, are cutting back on expansion (and expectations). Presumably Mendez is scratching around in The Bargain Basement. We will all be orgasmic when a couple of geriatric has-beens hobble in on deadline day.

UTW. We do love you but we sometimes cast a dubious eye.

Looking back at those posts made me cringe; too prophetic and accurate. Hope you are right , Angry, about the relegation save. Looks pretty dire now.
Went yesterday and the fans went flat when the many errors were made. Collins wasn’t the worst but alongside Max K, the back line is clearly weak now. The replacements for Cody Saiss and Boly have not been as good as they were in their prime. We know we have nothing upfront , and the midfield cannot rely totally on Neves match after match after match.
Semedo has excelled himself this time but he has been useless since he arrived,
The doomsayers are often wrong but we are close to one of those downward spirals that sucks the life out of a season. In the famous words on Mad Mick “I’ll be happy with 17th”
