15th March 1980: League Cup Final Wolves v Nottingham Forest

It was 40 years ago! Hard to believe that today marks the 40th anniversary of the last time Wolves won a major trophy - the league cup. Who would have thought all these years later we would have still been waiting for our next?

Certainly not me at the time. Like many after that fantastic win, I was convinced that it was going to be the springboard of a new period of success in the 80s. How wrong could I have been.

We were considerable underdogs for the final against a terrific Cloughy led Nottingham Forest side who were reigning European Champions and who went on the defend that title only months later.

A great moment for all Wolves fans, however rather than me writing about it, take a look at the video in the thread below. And what a winning goal it was! Has there ever been a simpler, sweeter tap in than that day??

UTW!!

If you are really up for it, given the lack of football here is the full match:

Thanks Ivy, a great watch and a reminder of the hairstyles.

Got there early that day, before the ground opened. Ate something over-priced and horrible from a van outside.
Peter Daniel was fantastic and he and Geoff Palmer kept John Robertson quiet down their left. I was never a big fan of George Berry but this was one of his best matches. Emlyn Hughes marshalled the defence and Andy Gray was everywhere. Man of the match for me was Willie Carr.
Great day and forty years has flown past.

Just watched the highlights Ivy, and, as a fan living a long way from Wolverhampton I never had a chance of a ticket, and as I was relatively newly married I couldn't bloody afford one either.

I remember however keeping up with the game on the radio, and that we had to wait until Sunday afternoon's Big Match with Brian Moore to be able to watch the game. How lucky we are these days eh!!

I well remember the goal going in just in front of where I was standing, I shall look forward to my new found leisure time and watch it

Cheers
