Two Top Talents

By Wolves
January 23 2020

Possibly the biggest game of Wolves' season so far kicks off at Molineux at 8pm this evening. After a very close game recently at Anfield, Wolves have the chance to bring a halt to the Liverpool juggernaut team which has dropped only two points all season, and to jump over Manchester United into 5th place in the League.

When facing the press Wolves Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo has adopted esxactly the same mantra as he has before all other games, by playing down the importance of the game whilst stressing the need to 'compete'. However he will surely know how importantly fans view this game and the potential chance of making nationwide headlines by inflicting the first defeat on Jurgen Klopp's formidable team this season. Having achieved the 'double' over their closest rivals Manchester City this season, fans will have no doubt that their team can come out of this game with rewards.

Two pieces of good news have come out of the camp this week, most notably that defender Willy Boly is back in training with the team, and that striker Diogo Jota may be fit to take part in tonight's game after missing the last four games. Also our first new signing in the January window has been completed, although Ecuadorian Leonardo Campana will initially slot into the Under 23's team and be developed from there. It is still hoped some new faces will be seen for the first team.

Senior referee Michael Oliver will be in charge of tonight's game which will be screened on BT Sport 1.

This board will hopefully provide some updates of the progress of the game (although to avoid the risk of interrupted streaming, I will be watching it in the pub!!). Members are encouraged to post their observations for the benefit of those unable to follow it otherwise.

Not too long to wait for the team news now. Will Jota make the bench or not? Neto is obviously in good form and would be motivated to get a goal v Liverpool officially recognised!

Taking the first win or even a point against Liverpool is becoming a badge of honour. Can we do it? Bet365 currently have us at 4/1 though earlier in the week had us at 5/1. The odds have shortened ...... marginally.

Surely, we have a fair chance, especially if we play like minute 46-90 at St Mary’s. Conversely if minute 1-45 are more representative, then oh dear!! I think we’ll be up for it, in the same way I know Molineux will. I am anticipating a very good, exciting match.

C’mon me babbies!! UTW!

Unchanged but look at the bench

Subs: Ruddy (gk), Kilman, Boly, Giles, Gibbs-White, Jota, Ashley-Seal

No place for Bennett

Great to see Jota and Boly back in contention.
Looking forward to a good match, hopefully with a victory for us.

I wonder what's happened with Bennett. He missed last Saturday as well. Haven't heard if he's injured.

Opposition look quite tidy

Quite atmospheric looking North East too

Bulls headed by Henderson from a corner to put Pool ahead
Wolves 0 Pool 1

Ah well, we thrive coming from behind

Cheshire wolf

Free header for Doc and it’s wide

23/01/2020 20:13
Perhaps we should just give everyone a goal start automatically!! Seriously, they don't half make it hard for themselves - let's see if they can do the magic tonight!

Wolves needing to defend well to stop Salah & Mane

Cheshire wolf

Raul gets a shot away but wide of the post. Mane had to go off injured for Pool replaced by Minimona

Last ditch intervention by Doc to deny Salah.
Half time whistle goes after an entertaining first half. Wolves were stung early on beam excellent header from a corner by Henderson but I would say it’s been pretty even since then. Wolves look fluid, energetic and creative and Adama has his jet- heeled boots on again. All to play for in the second half and hopefully we can get at least a draw.

23/01/2020 20:53
Good game so far and we don’t look intimidated, giving as good as we get.
A bit sharper up front and we could have been on level terms or even ahead.
Stream keeps breaking down which is frustrating.
Cmon lads.

23/01/2020 20:53
Be delighted with a draw!

So frustrating. If only we could take our chances .........

If only we could keep a clean sheet.

Reasons, however, to be cheerful ahead of the second 45. Luckily we only need two goals this half

Time for a piece of Traore magic.

Good punch out by Allison from our free kick then Neves tries a special but wide

Cheshire wolf
23/01/2020 21:24
Good save by Allison from Adama. Wolves are giving them a hell of a game here and it’s not beyond possibility that we could wing it!!!

Cheshire wolf
23/01/2020 21:26
Allison saves from Raul with his face!!

Cheshire wolf
23/01/2020 21:27
Salah left unattended but shoots wide

Cheshire wolf

Good break by Adama but he shoots hopelessly wide

Cheshire wolf
23/01/2020 21:34
The return of Diogo Jota!! He replaces Neto who has had another fine game

Cheshire wolf
23/01/2020 21:41
Good stop by Rui to deny Firmino. Van Dyke previously lucky to get awake with a poor headed clearance.

Cheshire wolf
23/01/2020 21:42
Firmino gets it right this time and puts L’pool ahead again
Wolves 1 L’pool 2

Cheshire wolf
23/01/2020 21:44
MGW replaces Joao

23/01/2020 21:45
Still time..

Cheshire wolf
23/01/2020 21:48
We have four added minutes to score an equaliser

Cheshire wolf
23/01/2020 21:50
You would have put money on Jota to score but he put it wide after being set up by Raul

23/01/2020 21:52
Oh these missed opportunities...

23/01/2020 21:53
Disappointing but is it any surprise? The bin dippers probably are the most consistent team in premier league history and you have to wonder if they will ever lose again

Cheshire wolf
23/01/2020 21:53
All over and L’pool continue their relentless march to the title. A very good game and Wolves can hold their heads high.
Wolves 1 L’pool 2

23/01/2020 21:54
Bloody good effort - and we scored against them - bet they're disappointed, though!

23/01/2020 22:03
A really combative performance, unlucky not to get a point.
Nothing to be ashamed of against a team like that.

Ivybridge Wolf
23/01/2020 22:18
A great performance but it’s all about sticking it in the back of the net. We must take our chances!

Truly gutted, the better side, especially in the second half and yet we lose.

Well played Wolves but Liverpool showed their title winning credentials. Sadly.

Wolves played really well and deserved something from the game, it felt like the spurs game in that we played so well but got nothing. Gutted with the result but happy with how we played, I don't think we could of done much more, we just need to be more clinical in front of goal. We pushed a class liverpool side all the way. Unlucky tonight wolves but nuno is building a class team of our own for sure.

Still absolutely gutted this morning.

Agree with everyone that we have played well and come away empty handed, and we all know that we have a tiny, committed squad. Miserable nevertheless. In Manchester last week I was chatting with a City fan who praised Wolves and of course hoped we knocked United out of the cup.
He had been though City’s own dark days and said that years ago, before the upsurge, he thought that if Man City could ever win the Premier he could die happy. But they have, and now they are no longer top he is as miserable as ever.
Meantime I do think that Traore’s rise has kind of masked the gaping wound that Boly’s injury has inflicted. Saiss has done way better than I expected but we have missed Willy’s majestic defending and the terror he inflicts during corners.
Good to see him on the bench again. May take a while to get him back to his best but can’t wait to see him again.
