WOLVES could be poised to make a swoop for Birmingham City duo Martin Taylor and Julian Gray after the Wolves boss admitted he's looking to strengthen his side before the window closes.

The Birmingham Post today reports that Wolves are looking to sign Birmingham City duo Martin Taylor and Julian Gray and the Wolves boss confirmed in his post match interview that he was interested in signing both a central defender and a left winger, comments which strengthen the rumours.

The Wolves boss has money to spend after the club sold Lee Naylor to Celtic in the week for £600,000. It's also believed that McCarthy is still yet to use the full allocated funds provided by the sale of Joleon Lescott to Everton earlier in the summer.

Martin Taylor is a big strong centre back who signed for the Blues back in 2004 for £125,000 from Stockport County. The 27 year old has yet to feature for the first team at Birmingham this season but did play in their 1-0 Carling Cup win over Shrewsbury Town in the week.

Like Taylor, Julian Gray has also failed to make an appearance for the first team at St Andrews however he also played in the 1-0 Carling Cup victory on Tuesday night.

Gray signed for Birmingham on a free transfer from Crystal Palace in June 2006 and has made 36 Premiership appearances, scoring 3 goals during his time under Steve Bruce.

The signing of Gary McSheffrey has seen the 27 year old fall out of favour and both may be making the short trip across the Midlands.
