URIAH Rennie has been appointed as the man in charge of Friday nights televised clash between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Preston North End.

 

Wolves - then of the Premiership - were refused three clear cut penalties in a game which Wolves finally lost 2-1, a result which pushed Wolves closer to the inevitable drop.

His performance was so bad that Wolves fan James Davison raced on the pitch to vent his anger at the official. Wolves boss Dave Jones called Rennie "arrogant" after the game, said the games he referees are all about him. Jones was later charged by the FA for his comments.

However that wasn't the only dealings Wolves faced with Rennie. In a bizarre game at St Mary's Stadium earlier that season the referee had an equally poor game and gave one of the poorest penalty decisions to Southampton ever seen.

Wolves full back Denis Irwin was alleged to have tripped Saints striker Kevin Phillips, however as our exclusive amazing graphic picture reel shows, the Wolves defender was at least two feet away from Phillips before the striker went over.

Rennie has refereed Wolves twice since the controversial display against Bolton. He refereed Wolves home games against Millwall and Manchester United last season - both resulted in Wolves defeats.

Rennie is well known to the Wolves fans for some of the poorest refereeing performances of recent years. The Football Association were forced to give Rennie and Wolves a "cooling off period" following a famous performance against Bolton in 2004.
