WOLVES look set to take a gamble on former Oxford United Striker Craig Davies. The 20 year old is currently plying his trade with Italian Serie B Side Verona.

Northampton Town boss John Gorman has admitted to the media that he has lost out in his bid to sign 20 year old Welsh International Craig Davies - To Wolves!

Davies had a brief spell at Oxford United before becoming the only British player to ply his trade in Italy when he was snapped up by Italian Serie B side Verona. However it now appears Wolves have agreed to take a gamble on the tall striker.

The 6 ft 2in target manis a relatively new comer to the Welsh National side and still represents the U21's more than he does the first team and it was the U21's when he last impressed on English soil by scoring a first half hat trick against Estonia. at the end of last season.

Speaking to the clubs official website, Northampton boss John Gorman - who was running the rule over Davies with a trial - said last week "Craig has done very well in training and he is a player who I think could do well for us. We are seeing if we can bring him in and it is a possibility.

"He has a lot of potential and he was being closely watched when he was at Oxford. He went out to Italy and has enjoyed his time but he is only 20 years old and he wants to come back to England. He has been working with the youth team since we came away but I have been talking to his agent over the telephone and Craig has shown a great attitude while working with us."

Northampton were lining up a one year loan deal with Verona with a view to a possible permanent deal. It's currently unknown what Wolves have offered however Gorman today added "It's disappointing but I was told Wolves have got him - we got that from his agent,"
