WOLVES Caretaker boss Stuart Gray admits he will be worried if Wolves are in the position they are now a week before the start of the season.

It is 21 days today before the 2006/07 Championship season kicks off away at Plymouth Argyle and Wolves caretaker boss Stuart Gray admits he's on the verge of becoming a worried man.

The caretaker boss is on the shortlist for the Molineux vacancy but admits that if Wolves are in the same position now in two weeks time then the panic button may need to be pressed.

Wolves have gone 180 minutes without scoring a single goal against non-league opposition in their previous two pre-season games whilst the game away game at Kidderminster Hariers needed to be cancelled due to the sheer lack of numbers in the squad.

Wolves are yet to bring a single player into the club this summer whilst plenty have left. Carl Cort is also heavily linked with a move to Crystal Palace whilst Rohan Ricketts has today been linked with a move to Premiership new boys Sheffield United.

The Wolves Chief Executive Jez Moxey yesterday admitted the board were "very near" to appointing a new manager but speaking after the 1-0 defeat to Burton Albion on Saturday, caretaker and new-boss hopeful Stuart Gray said "The squad needs strengthening. I'll be worried if we're still in this situation a week before the season starts".

The Wolves season starts away at Plymouth Argyle on the 5th August before Wolves entertain Ipswich Town and Preston North End in the first two home games of the 2006/07 season.
