Newcastle United host Preston North End tomorrow on the back of an impressive 4-1 win against Coventry City, whilst Preston travel on the back of a less than impressive 5-3 defeat against Derby County. Newcastle have been inconsistent on the pitch of late with three wins, two draws & one defeat in their last six games, whilst Preston have won two, drawn one & lost three of their last six games. With 24 points and 13 places between the two sides Newcastle will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the table whilst Preston will be hoping to push into the top ten.
Chris Hughton has no fresh injury concerns but is still without Shola Ameobi (hamstring), Steven Taylor (knee), Joey Barton (foot), Nicky Butt (thigh) and Jose Enrique (hamstring). Alan Smith who started the Coventry game on the bench is pushing for a start, but Hughton could opt to stick with the same starting eleven he fielded in midweek.
Darren Ferguson is expected to make changes to his starting eleven after dropping points at Pride Park. Callum Davidson is expected to miss out through injury, as are Richard Chaplow (groin), Paul Parry (knee) and Barry Nicholson (broken leg). Ferguson will be hoping that despite having the 2nd highest number of goals conceded in the Championship, his defence who he was openly unimpressed with in midweek, will be able to manage Newcastle's Andy Carroll who has just hit double figures.
Fact: Preston North End last won a match in Newcastle in September 1963.
Fact: Newcastle Utd are the only team in the Championship not to have lost at home this season.

Does anybody know how long routledge is out for, as he will be a big miss
Excellent result. I was watching the Lovely Bones instead of listening to the commentary but was pleasently suprised when I turned the radio on.

Hopefully the Brom will lose and we can start getting a gap.

What concerns me is that I'm hearing things like Best having poor games and it makes me wonder how Ranger is getting no game time and the guy taking his place is not really doing well. He must feel gutted. Just hope that he gets a chance soon.
