Newcastle United travel to Pride Park tomorrow night where 18th place Derby County host the leaders; Both sides go into the game having won three, drawn two and lost one in their last six competitive games. Whilst Derby managed a draw at the weekend, Newcastle thrashed Cardiff City by five goals to one and will be looking to increase their lead over title rivals West Brom and Nottingham Forest.
Chris Hughton will recall Alan Smith (thigh) to the side after he failed to be fit for the team that faced Cardiff on Friday night. Nicky Butt remains sidelined with a thigh problem and Fabricio Coloccini is unlikely to be available due to a hamstring injury. Long term injuries to Jose Enrique (hamstring) and Steven Taylor (medial ligament strain) mean they will both be absent and whilst Joey Barton is due to return to training this week he is unavailable for tomorrow night.
Derby who will be looking to extend the gap between them and the drop zone are without Dean Lealock (knee) and Lee Hendrie (hamstring), however they could welcome David Martin to make his debut should his emergency loan signing be completed in time. New signing Javan Vidal will also be pushing for his debut. Lee Croft could play some part after returning to training this week having recovered from a hamstring injury.
Fact: Newcastle will be looking for their first win over Derby County in nearly 8 years.
Fact: Derby have failed to score in 12 league games this season.
