Bassong Fined 2 Weeks Wages

By Tyne-Talk

Newcastle United's Sebastien Bassong has been fined the maximum 2 week's wages by the club for refusing to travel to their pre-match friendly against Dundee United at the weekend. The 23 year old has made it clear he wishes to leave Newcastle and is sought after by several clubs including Arsenal, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.

It is thought that Bassong, whom Alan Shearer placed a £10million price tag on, is worried about picking up an injury which will ruin his chances of a big money transfer.

The Chronicle reported the following from a "Source" at the club;

"As far as the club is concerned he is under contract with Newcastle United. And if he fails to turn up for a game then the necessary action must be taken."

Bassong joined Newcastle last summer for £500,000 but it has been reported that the club have rejected a £10million bid for the player made by Spurs, a bid Spurs manager Harry Redknapp claims to know nothing about.

What a @#$%&, he wouldn't have all this attention if we hadn't rescued him from France, he could at least be a little grateful

What amazes me is there is a slim chance he may not be sold then he will have to face the fans having completely sold them out by refusing to play.

He is a gonner know, wouldn't be surprised if the deal wasn't wrapped up the by the weekend, but will the clubs interested pay top money now as they might see it as a way to haggle

I suspect it was his way of trying to stir things to help push a transfer through

I f00king hate crack like this. A lot of players have done this in the past but the % that are french is just unreal. I wouldnt sign another. Sell him if we get top money.

I rate him very highly but at the end of the day he has had one good season in a poor toon side. He still dropped a couple of clangers and got himself sent off a couple of times. For all we know he could be a bit of a one season wonder. If he is doing things like this then its better to bank the money.

Who knows, Ashley might reinvest the money.(Sm105)

Your totally right Biffins, he may be a one season wonder and the french have been problems at times not just our club. Fining any player 2 weeks wages is f@ck#ng stupid, I know he is on low wages but a lot more than us, he has plenty of cash so fining him 2 weeks is f@ck all. The rule needs to be changed so we can give out a month fine, next time he will shut his mouth.

I would want him out, get the cash and even if it just cover some of the wage bill then it is better than f@ck#ll. But would like to see it spent on new players just can't see Ashley doing it but you never know even scrooge had his day

Petulant little f*cker.

Unfortunately 95% of footballers would act the same in todays climate.

The premier league is full of twitter bashing, money grabbing little mercs.

sebastien bassong? waste of space, one season wonder hopefully specially with him getting his move to london today possibly. yer know with all this turmoil this summer he is the only player to pubicly come out and say hes not playing in the championship.habib beye did ask for move to but he did commit earlier in summer,he is just sick of all the politics at club. who does bassong think he is? he got his former club relegated last year too there is players in our squad who have won premier titles and won champions league but they have not come out and said im too big for this league, let bassong go and see his career nosedive big time.

Bassong was the only shining light in an awful team last season. He has been relegated twice in two years... how about three in a row???

8m/10m is pretty good business, but this doesnt reduce the wage bill. We need rid of Geremi, Smith, Colo etc.
