Martins Completes 4 Year Deal

By Tyne-Talk

Striker Obafemi Martins has completed his move to Bundesliga club Wolfsburg. The Nigerian has signed a 4 year deal with the side after passing a medical and agreeing terms. He is the first key player to leave Newcastle United this summer, paving the way for others to leave after Mike Ashley lifted the pause on transfers.

Wolfsburg coach Armin Veh said of the deal;

"He is just the type of player that we were looking for to complement Grafite and Edin Dzeko.

He is not only quick, but he has also proven how dangerous he is in front of goal.

Since he can also be used out wide, we now have more possibilities to play with two or three strikers.

For his young age, he has already gained lots of experience in Italy and England and he also knows the Champions League."

Martins said of the move;

"I am delighted the transfer has gone through. The Bundesliga is one of the strongest leagues in the world and I am happy to be able to play for the defending Bundesliga champions.

This is going to be a great challenge."

And this is what we're supposed to feel good about, finally? Pretty hollow.

Is it wrong for me to say Im pleased he is one of the ones to go. I just feel that if things were not going well (which there is a good chance of happening) he would be one of the first to throw his toys out of the pram. This type of attitude would do nobody any good.

Plus we have got excellent money for him even though we have went down. He is not a 9 mill player and have him off the wages. Hopefully it will show to others who are hovering to take players that they wont go as cheap as people think.

Clubs are now going to be putting the bids in for the rest of the cr@p, we got good money for Martins and lets be honest you was not going to stay, and he is off the wage bill, hopefully more will f@ck@ff and we will be left the keen players to want to play for us

Never understood the HATE! for Martins. He's been our most dangerous goal threat of late, precisely because he's the kind of guy that can play his game without a lot of support. One of few players who kept NUFC games from being snorefests over the last couple of seasons. Also note: other clubs really disagree with the relative valuations of NUFC players by posters here. No interest in much of anyone else, 9M for Martins-only 1M loss.

Best wishes, Oba!

agreed tunyc sad to see him go, question is how much of that 9 million will be invested into the team ? and who will use that money to buy new players ?

Martins did state that he wanted to stay a few weeks ago.

I'm gutted he left sad smiley For me he was one of our better players. He could change a game and we don't have many who can

They're getting a good player, a 1 in 3 goal record for us over the last 3 years is pretty good, and still young and we did get good money for him. Like many of our players he was one I'd have kept but only if we could have reduced wages to be more Championship but it was always unlikely.
