Fans View Of Kinnear Contract Offer

Joe Kinnear told Sky Sports yesterday that he had been offered a new contract by Newcastle United's owner Mike Ashley, but was considering whether to accept it or not. Obviously the decision comes as a surprise to most and the fans have been having their say.
Message boards have been flooded with opinions some pro Kinnear and some of the belief that he is only an interim manager and that he isn't who we should be hoping to take the position on a full time, permanent basis. One of the plus sides is that the players will all know who the manager is going to be next season, which leads to some form of stability and hopefully some signatures committing their futures, especially with the likes of Owen and Given; both of whom are linked repeatedly away from the club. On the down side, he has only managed 4 wins since he arrived.
Kinnear said of the offer;
"I am just mulling things over in my head at the moment.
I have been offered a very lucrative contract.
Mike and the Chairman and I have sat down and talked about taking the club forward and investing in the club in the summer."
He extended this interview to the press later on in the day;
"I have been offered a very lucrative contract (at Newcastle). I've now got a really strong foothold in the club and things are turning back my way.
Mike Ashley, Derek Llambias and I sat down and talked about taking the club forward and about reinvesting in the club in the summer.
But I said to them first and foremost, we have to work hard and establish ourselves as a Premier League side and get away from the relegation fight. I really don't need anymore distractions than that.
What I suggested to the club was that we all sit down in the summer and look at each other and say what direction do we want to take the club in, refinancing it, letting players go and bringing in my own players.
I'll also see what my wife and family have to say about the situation of moving up here permanently.
The more I do, the more I realised how much I missed it. Every time I come in and do the training work with the players I start telling myself it's fantastic that this is part of my life, I really enjoy this.
This is the good part of the game, working with the talented players."
The fans have said of the news;
"I personally blame Derek Llambias more than Ashley as the clubs communications took a massive nose dive when Chris Mort left. Llambias should be held accountable if Owen walks, Owen is an asset and the clubs value will drop without him. As for him being offered the job for longer, he's certainly earnt it and is probably the best we could get. But, I'd like to see the club show more ambition by hiring Steve Bruce or Alan Shearer (I know unproven)." - Detox1978 -"We are a laughing stock and cannot really get much worse. The guy was better than nowt, but has won 4 out of 17 games and continually talks a load of@#$%&to the press. Just look at the next 10 games. Putting blind optimism to one side, we could be lucky if we get 2 points.
For forks sake, let's just get towards the end of the season and see if Ashley is genuine in his desire to take this club forward. Appointing JFK as a long term manager is not a forward step in my opinion." - ToonBart -
"I just can't make my mind up whether Joe Kinnear getting an extended contract is good news or bad news. "He's done a decent enough job so far, made us harder to beat it seems, so may as well give him the job since it seems he's going to let him sign players so he's got to get the chance to use them. It's not the big manager we've wanted in the past and he had been out of the game for a few years so many were a bit underwhelmed and disappointed but I don't think anybody else could have done any better really." - Tyne-Talk Member
The one thing for me that sways it in Kinnear's favour is consistency. Quite a few players have been quoted as saying how unhappy they are with the continual change in management. You can't build if you're forever knocking down the foundations.
On balance I'd say let's keep him, I'm sure he'll keep us from going down, which is as much as we can hope for this season." - Annie -

this doesnt mean kinnear will definitely be manager for our first game next season, but the current description of him as 'interim manager' gives the impression that he definitely wont be boss next season. this current uncertainty could be damaging, and could also lead to a lack of effort from players who are under the impression they will outlast joe at the club - they think they can work on impressing the new boss from pre-season rather than working to be part of joe's long term plans.

I was simply highlighting your ability / need to attach a logical positive plausable reasons to every bit of bad news.
For the record, i am by nature an optimist, have no problem with other peoples opinions and do like a good old argument. I do not take part in a forum simply to agree with everyone.

as ever, you have steered a thread away from comments that disagree with your own. i was trying to rationalise the contract offer to kinnear, you were simply criticising it, and didnt want to hear a different opinion to your own. not for the first time, either.

I actually looked to see what brought you to the forum, your first post and this was your first or second.
Probably like a lot of others, I read for a while before "an event" caused me to rant. I think mine was the Keegan exit. I wondered what caused you to start.
TBH I havent looked up the exile on wearside name. But perhaps we could start a new thread regarding what made people make that big step from watching to writing.
Anyway, commiserations living with that lot.
