Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor has told The Gazette that he and his team-mates will approach today's game as if their midweek defeat never happened. Taylor who captained Tuesday's young team is desperate to see the club back in the Premiership next season and commented on how focused the team are on getting 3 points from today's game.

He said;

"Even before we left the ground we were talking about Ipswich. And it's vital that we get back on track, and get back to winning ways.

We had a young side out, and I know how each and every one of them feel.

But this season was always going to be about a promotion campaign, and while you don't want to lose any game, we're hell-bent on getting back up this season - that's the main thing.

You have to make a statement, and we're focused on beating Ipswich.

We're also determined to make sure we stay in that top two. If we can start building up a lead at the top, we know that every game that we chalk off, we're a step closer to it.

Getting back to playing Premier League football is the main aim."

Talking of his younger colleagues he added;

"When you play alongside young players, part of your job is to nurture them through.

It's tough making your debut, and when I made mine I had a lot of experienced players around me. That helped me, so you have to try to do the same.

We know we are going to have to rely on some of them again this season."

I want a top 2 finish, I know I said in the summer that we'd be lucky to make the top 6 but results are just rolling in

im not liking the way all the goals are coming from set peices, we need to start playing and scoring from open play..

agree to a certain point but set pieces are the bread and butter of this league and the prem to a certain extent (fat sam bolton / kevin nolan at his best) goals from open play will come with jonas back in the team as at the min we lack pace in the midfield but luckily our quality in this area is doing a great job and as we have some big lads in the team why not play to their strengths? we have been reaping the rewards of playing simple but effective football

Exactly. Ryan Taylor has been striking the ball really well this year, not just in this game. We have probably the biggest front line in the league, and we all know that Taylor has a knack for getting into the fray on a set piece or corner too. Even if we aren't scoring a lot from open play, as long as we can get goals from set pieces we'll be fine.

The open play will return when we get some healthy players back. Guthrie and Jonas will make a lot more space than Butt can. I'm still not sure if we're better in a 4-4-2 with the two big strikers who can't really play off each other or as a 4-5-1 with Nolan pushed high. Ranger's yet to get a goal of his own, but tied with Ryan Taylor at the top of the assists chart. It'll be sad to see him pushed almost completely out of the squad if we play a 4-5-1 when Ameobi returns. At the same time, in a 4-4-2, with Guthrie, Smith, Jonas, Ryan Taylor, and Kevin Nolan available, who gets pushed out?
