WOLVES were linked with a move for Everton Defender Alan Stubbs over the weekend with reports that the former Celtic man was set to team up with new signing Jackie McNamara.

Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle is understood to have a central defender on his shopping list and may turn to Everton's 33 year old centre half Alan Stubbs.

Hoddle has Joleon Lescott and Jody Craddock as his current pairing but Northern Ireland International Mark Clyde and Welsh International Rob Edwards can both play in central defence with Clyde being the more natural centre half of the two.

Hoddle opted to turn down the chance to sign Danish International Mikkel Bischoff once he returned to the City Of Manchester Stadium, despite Wolves paying a "substantial" loan fee and agreeing a fee for a permanent move for the Manchester City man during the last three months of the season.

Now Wolves are linked with a move to Stubbs and Stubbs may be tempted to move to Molineux by former Celtic Captain Jackie McNamara.

Stubbs played with McNamara for 5 years at Celtic and it is believed the two struck up a good relationship.

Stubbs left Celtic Park back in 2001 but the opportunity of playing each week in what Hoddle hopes will become a successful side and joining up with Jackie McNamara again may be too good of an opportunity for him to turn down.
