14th December 2003 | Aston Villa 3 Wolves 2 (Rae, Kennedy).

 A Spirited second half performance was not enough to earn a point at Villa Park as Wolves were thrown to their 9th defeat of the season.

 This game was either going to push Wolves back into the relegation pack or cut them off at the bottom - It was the latter, and I don`t need to tell you what it means to the club who are bottom of the Premiership on Christmas Day.

 The first half at Villa Park was another waste of time and hard earned money from the 3,000 gold and black Barmy Army who turned out to cheer their team on.

 The Wolves defence parted like the red sea twice in the opening 30 minutes allowing Juan Pablo Angel to shoot Villa into a two goal lead.

 Alex Rae then thumped the ball home from 18yrds to give Wolves hope. Hope which soon disappeared as the Wolves defence were caught in no-mans land again after 49 minutes as Gareth Barry drilled the ball home, whilst unmarked, from 8yrds.

 Jones then replaced Sturridge for Miller and Cameron for Silas and Wolves then looked the brighter team.

 A lovely Miller through-ball was latched onto by Mark Kennedy who took one touch and slid the ball past Postma in the Villa goal, scoring his first ever Premiership goal.

 Wolves tried and tried, but were denied and denied an equaliser. Instead Wolves are now rock bottom and adrift from the relegation pack.

 Relegation stares Wolves very closely in the face.
