Embarrassing.
Humiliating. Pathetic. - Those are just a few words which described last
nights performance at Highbury. The game was so bad, that we did not
even have the heart to write the match report. Basically,
the majority of the Wolves Support had only heard of four Arsenal
Players. Patrick
Vieira, Kanu, Wiltord and Aliadiere were in the squad. The rest of
the squad were made up with players we had never heard of. Including a
number 57. To
rub salt into the gaping Wolves wound, number 57 came on, number 57
scored and number 57 made history in becoming Arsenal`s youngest ever
scorer. (He was 16). The
highlight of the night was probably the Wolves Support. Very view Clubs
in the country could muster Support like Wolves had at Highbury last
night and the "We want our money back" chant was more than
justified. "They
were the same players who did so well against one of the top sides in
the country on Saturday," said a angry Dave Jones, "and yet it
was as if I put two different teams out.
"That can only be down to
application. We just didn't turn up. The one thing you cannot do at any
level but particularly against teams of Arsenal's quality is give them a
helping hand and we did that.
"The kid (Lee Naylor) has to
take responsibility for that. But we spoke at half time about being more
forceful, about doing things quicker and to make sure we made our passes
. . . and it never happened.
"What have we done different
for this game than we did against Newcastle? It's frustrating and it's
hard and players have to look at themselves and say: 'Did I do enough?'
and some of them can't say they did.
"Arsenal do not put a shirt
on the back of any player unless they think they are good enough. And
they have got top class young players.
"It didn't matter whether it
was their first team or not. We didn't make a pass, we didn't run, we
didn't chase them down. It's fine blaming managers and coaches and I'll
take the flak that comes my way."
