Pressure, Us? Nah

With Ipswich Town beating Pompey and Nottingham losing to Reading on Friday it was massively important that Wolves took 3pts from this game. The performance not important, it was the points we needed.

Ipswich`s win moved them to within just one point of Wolves so it was vital that Wolves took maximum points which would enable us to leapfrog Forest into 5th position and hand the majority of the pressure to our Midlands rivals.

 Due to the Away Fans Ban imposed by Wolves and Millwall, the fans were subject to a strange rare atmosphere at Molineux, but over 27,000 fans packed in to Molineux to set a new record in home attendance since the new stadium was built.

 Wolves went back to the usual 442 formation. Newton replaced Alex Rae on the right and Ndah replaced the suspended Nathan Blake.

 Wolves made the intentions clear very early on, dominating the opening minutes and it took only 5 minutes for Wolves to open the scoring.

 Kenny Miller`s excellent through-ball was picked up by Man Of The Match Colin Cameron who rounded Warner in the Millwall goal however his shot was cleared off the line but the advancing Newton had time to control the ball before tapping in from close range.

 Wolves continued to pound Warner in the Millwall goal with shots as Wolves totally dominated the first half. Miller should have scored from 6yrds and Newton, Cameron and Kennedy all came very close in a half where Matt Murray in the Wolves goal was merely a spectator.

 The Second half was just like the first. Wolves opend strongly and again came so close time and time again. It started to get frustrated as the fans started to expect the typical scenario for this stage of the season. Although Millwall were yet to have a shot on target, fans expected them to score, shut up shop and claim a point which would dent Wolves` hopes. However a piece of magic from Colin Cameron secured the points.

 Colin Cameron latched on to an Irwin pass and somehow flicked the ball, from behind him past the last defender and neatly chipped the ball into the net. Cue a huge sigh of relief from the Wolves fans as the superb performance received the 3rd goal it full deserved.

 Shaun Newton for the umpteenth time won the ball down the right, cut into the box and instead of squaring the ball to Colin Cameron, he greedily chipped the ball over Warner into the net to complete the scoring.

 The win moves Wolves to 5th place, 4 points clear of Ipswich. The pressure has been shifted to Nottingham Forest as Wolves approach Mondays game against Norwich on a high.

 Norwich players were quoted as saying they believed Wolves would blow the chances of promotion again, and Norwich would steel the final Play-Off spot, but with Wolves now 6pts clear of Norwich, it appears to be the Canaries who have the lack of bottle.
