FINAL PART SEASON REVIEW

  But was the season disappointing?

To all you who think it was, and to all those know nothing tossers who make a living talking and writing shyte about Arsenal in the media while purporting to know about the game all I can say is:

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Of course, having led the League for so long and to not win it is difficult to take, but even though I expected us to do well (see the ITV 'interview'), to be the best team for two-thirds of the season, play the best football and have to overcome injury and misfortune in doing so is a fantastic effort in a team so young in its development. While Man U were spending £65m on 4 players, Liverpool spending £60m on players during the season and Chelsea continuing their Lottery winners spending spree yet again.

Arsene continues to produce players from nowhere who cost nothing or a pittance in relation to how good they are. Bacary Sagna is just brilliant with a great attitude and Gael is just magnificent. The two best full backs in the league and probably the best pairing in Europe. And at a combined cost of about £7m. Our whole first eleven cost about £35m. Compare that to the others of the top four. They are debt ridden and don't produce their own players anymore.

Man U haven't produced a top class player for 15 years. Liverpool for 10 years. Chelsea the same.

And yet despite all the evidence to the contrary over the years with Wenger's player development - Cesc, Henry, Vieira, Kolo, Clichy, RvP, Cole, and his signing of older or more experienced players like Pires, Campbell, Lauren, Mad Jens, Ljungberg, Sagna, Eduardo, Gilberto etc., many of you are panicking over signings and "why haven't we made any yet, the season's been over for 10 days and no-one's come in and look at all those that have left" (one so far plus Jens).

So to all those out there who are even taking notice of websites who make The Sun and The Mirrors' transfer load of shyte look plausible: What the f*ck is the panic? Why pick over every snippet of Samir Nasri or Ben Arfa information? How many of you have seen them play enough to be able to pass judgement on how good they are or whether they would suit us? One thing you can be sure of and that is that Wenger knows exactly how good they are and whether they can play for us. And if and when he signs him, them or anyone else just think of our last two signings, Sagna and Eduardo and how f*cking good they have been for us.

Arsenals Bacary Sagna celebrates scoring his sides first goal of the game with teammates as Chelsea

Sagna celebrates his first Arsenal goal

My Debt's bigger than your debt

And while I'm at it, why spend shed loads of money trying to compete with Chelsea, Liverpool, Man U and some wannabees? For what purpose?  To keep up with the Jones's? To run up debt in a game called 'My debt's bigger than your debt'? I didn't realise you have to have massive unrepayable debt to be called a big club these days.

I much prefer the Arsenal game. It's called Balancing the Books.  FIFA & UEFA should ensure that clubs around the world play that game. Then we'd see exactly how big the likes of Man U, Chelsea, Barca, Real Madrid, Internationale, Milan, Liverpool and others really are.

Yes, of course we need a couple or three new players, but we can't risk upsetting the balance of the squad in terms of players coming in for vast transfer fees with wages to match. If we had wanted to do that, then we would have paid Flamini £70k 'netto' wouldn't we? And then doubled everyone else's wages after they too have had one good season. And where would it end? In the hands of Usmanov probably.

We have a new stadium, easily paid for over a period plus the second highest turnover in the world and the largest club membership in the world.

We have 4 players chosen in the PFA Team of the Year, the highest representation, an Academy producing tremendous players, and for those who think it is important, Wenger thinks we have about 9 English players who could be playing in our first team within a few years. Which makes the ridiculous notion that we would struggle with 1) any FIFA directive about having a certain number of Academy produced players in our first team squad and 2) be up the Swanee if a certain number of home grown (English) players are required.

In fact, f*ck it Nick, I think we should push for a certain number of Academy produced English players to be part of a 16 man match day squad.  Then watch the others panic.

And one final word to those who think that our players shouldn't come out with bold statements about how we won't make the same mistakes next season or we have to deliver next season as three years without a trophy is too long or statements to that effect - I say the more they say it the better it is. It means they are more confident, but most importantly can see what they have to do having been so close to the big trophies this year.

And we honestly don't need this so-called English spine. Look at Terry. Look at Ferdinand. Look at Spurs.

Roll on next season and please, please don't panic too soon over transfers. However, if we haven't signed anyone by the morning of August 31st then you can join me in a full on Arsenal Times collective panic up.

THE END

Great review mate u pretty much sum up all the concerns of arsenal fans and highlight instances where we were robbed, cheated or denied key decisions by poor officiating.

It is so reassuring to hear that other arsenal fans were thinking the same thing as me (prob many others as well) in regards to decisions against us and anti arsenal media in the paper.

A couple of things that the media fail to ignore - the replay if the decision when Evra was 'fouled' by gilbo. If it was a foul why not replay it at least once.

The media constantly referring to some English players as lionhearts, outstanding, and world class. If they're so good how come we couldnt even qualify for the Euros.

Stevie ME conveniently makes every PFA team of the season....for what?? What game against the big clubs did he step up for. I think people conveniently forgot against their rivals the Mancs they got spanked home and away!

Also, great point re: Fergie chatting to the ref at half time - this has to stop its getting ridiculous - you should not be allowed to talk to the ref full stop!

Then man u have the cheek to complain against the penalty with Michael Carrick. He handballed it - it was a penalty!! There is nothing contentious about it!!
THat was the one penalty against them all season....

Finally great points re: Eboue and Hleb- sum it up nicely.

Oh this is the final point actually - perhaps we should have some 50th anniversary ourselves next season and use it to get every decision we need to win everything...

Great review mate. Agree with most points disagree with others.

The fact of the matter is that weve had ONE carling cup runners up medal in THREE years. I know with a couple of star signings and a better mentality we would of achieved more.

We are consistently finishing 3rd and 4th. No doubt we have improved by leaps and bounds this season but coming close, as mourinho said recently, could only be described as great by "the philosophy of a loser".

We are turning into Liverpool, full of promise, but come the end of the season end up with nothing (well apart from that cl ofcourse) and for those who have supported the club for decades, im not saying thats bad considering certain periods of regular failuer, but im only 20 and since i can remember weve been winning trophies and its all I know.

Our mentality and ambition has changed, we used to demand atleast 1 trophy and a top 2 finish, now people seem happy with a top 4 finish and cl qualification.

The likes of spurs, sunderland and man city have more ambition in the transfer market than us.

Im not saying we should go out and spend 60/70 mill a season like others, but spending 10 is a joke and is disrepectful of the fans who pay vast amounts of money, the most in the world if im not mistaken, on watching us play and atleast 20 mill, which I dont care what anyone says, is not going to bury us in debt, a season is needed, especially when you consider the money made from players sold and stars wages which are scarce among our squad these days.

The board are sitting with their greedy little hands in the transfer kitty and cant be happier that wenger spends peanuts when we still get money from qualifying for the cl and such.

I guarentee, one bad season and no cl qualification and Wenger would most probably be shown the door.

The time for investment is now, no excuses, im sure wenger has a list of targets, we need to get them, not because we WANT to but more because flamini and hleb, 2 first team members ahve left/leaving. 2 Top quality signings is a must and if we continue with wengers stubborn attitude in the transfer market then lets get ready for another "almost" season that promises so much then delivers so little. Rant over.

We have had one FA Cup winners medal in 3 years. Runners up in CL and CC medals as well.

We missed the Championship by 4 points.

Did Liverpool have Torres out all season?

How would Man U have coped wthout Rooney and Ronaldo?

Chelsea bought Anelka to add to Sheva - what did they win?

Forgot CL runners up, well 2 runners up medals in 3 seasons then.

Agree about the striker situation padre, but RVP has been crocked for a few seasons now was hardly a suprise to see him on the sidelines this season.

However, United beat us 4-1 without Ronaldo or Tevez.

Torres could of been wearing our shirt, he even said he wanted to play for us so for me he could of been playing now and its down to our tight purse strings that he isnt. 33 goals in all competitions has justified his price tag (3 more than Ade)

Also Liverpool only have one good striker, we have potentially 3 or 4 so why at times didnt we use them.

Playing 4-5-1 with 2 defensive midfielders out wide has hardly helped the cause which is down mainly, to a lack of wide players which is because we didnt buy any after certain departures.

Mike does it hurt to admit we won cup in 3 seasons?

Yes they beat Hoyte and Traore and Kolo and Billy took the day off. Barnsley would have beaten that team.

They drew at our place and were lucky to beat us 2-1.

I agree about RvP, but eduardo was coming into great form. Who would have predicted in January that he would be out for whole season.

In fact the problem is the defence, thats what needs strengthening. We had plenty of goals, @#$%& defending undid us. Let in 7 less and we would have won league

It does hurt Padre because it feels like were a club going backwards, I may be saying this stuff out out of haste and im sure well get back to winning things but you cant say Wenger's decisions have been the best these few years and it seems he's to stubborn to change, even by a bit, for the good of the club.

Agree. Defense is definately a key issue. Stats show we have bettered chelsea goal for goal, defensive stats show we let in too many away goals. A new cb is needed, we need a solid back four, kolo and gallas cant play together. We cant be putting song/gilberto at CB, toure on right wing. The injury to Sagna was vital in our downfall so hopefully next season they all stay fit and we have a solid back four but can you really see wenger buying a top class centre back this summer, I hope we do but Wengers stubborn attitude may think we have enough.

Going backwards?
15 points more than last season?
1 place higher and second best goal tally.
If we could ahve kept Eduardo and Sagna it might have been different.

Wait until you go 17 years without a trophy then you will know backwards
