19) We won 2-0 which meant we didn't have any bearing on the outcome of the league title.
45) He deputised for Michael Thomas at right back. Viv Anderson left during the summer of 1987 and Winterburn joined us that summer so they weren't at the club at the same time.
I thought Eastham was stretching it, so why not Barnett?
Barnes is definitely one

celine George Graham did not finish his playing career at crystal palace, he had a short stint in the USA after palace
and as pointed out already Arsenal beat aston villa on last day of season 80/81, brian mcdermott who is now the reading manager scored one of his few goals for arsenal that day. Ipswich failed to beat middlesboro and so handed the title to villa
*Signing Ozil is a signing Bergkamp type moment for Arsenal. It changes things utterly.*
sorry chaps I totally apologise for the villa question. I was trying desperately to find a question from the 1980 era which is not my peak time of life and stumbled on a webstory about Aston Villas league title win. As you know I do enjoy quite a lot to drink of an evening especially around xmas and I appear to have posted a dud question. What I thought happened was that we lost to Villa and then Ipswich lost to boro the the same day then lost the next game so Villa were champions. I appear to be incapable of comprehending complex football results. By way of mitigation did we not beat Ipwsich 2-0 the following season on the final day to hand the title to Liverpool? That, I think, is what I was getting mixed up with.
However, to the other trainspotter whose come on here, Barnes is in Surrey, its next to Richmond, so you arent having that.
celine we indeed beat ipswich away 2-0 the following season, but it was not our last game of the season, I think peter nicholas may have got his one and only arsenal goal in said game, he had joined from palace that march and did not lose a game with us that season - was only about ten games.

a few comments...
Arsenal could have been wearing aways shorts in home matches last week, I would not remember or care.
surprise you hightlighted question 45 as a trick question, when same could be said for a few of the earlier ones, or maybe it's just me completely baffled.
dont really agree. Micky Thomas was no more a right back than Winterburn was. So you could say they were both being used to replace Anderson before Lee dixon turned up which was I think in early December (Dixons first game was in midfield though, I believe). Thomas got injured then Winterburn had a go and played for about the same length of time. So although Winterburn was bought as a replacement for Sansom you can still say he started his Arsenal career in the spot vacated by Viv Anderson after several seasons in that position. The point of the question, as I am sure you will understand, is that Winterburns first sequence of games were at right back, when he was an almost entirely left footed. Perhaps I should have rephrased the question, to avoid pedantry.
Barnes, historically part of Surrey and falling into the borough of Richmond, can be considered part of London due to its postcode so in the spirit of seasonal goodwill I am prepared to allow Goonerak a third of point on that question.
If anyone else want a row about my questions Im here all day.
Dear brother, or sister, well done on conceding Barnes, its also on the London Underground

Apologies it is a railway station, but is in Zone 3 and covered by a London Travel Pass interchangeable with the london Underground thus it is part of Transport for London integrated network
