All the ups and downs of the trip to Hartlepool where Rovers lost 2-1 on Tuesday night in Coca-Cola League One but for some Rovers Fans, the day was still an enjoyable one for a number of reasons.

Weather Report

A weather report eh?  Well it was a Tuesday night trip to Hartlepool so I do really need to tell you what the weather was like?  A cold, wet and very windy night in the North East - just as you might expect if you yourself have been there before!

Crowd

3,033 fans were inside Victoria Park for the game of which just 116 of them were hardy Rovers souls.  Compare the attendance tonight to the play-off gate they had against us four years ago and I guess that says it all about their current plight and relegation battle.

Referee Watch

Carl Boyeson (County Durham) - After overtaking us on the way into Hartlepool, Mr Boyeson had a decent game throughout until the moment he awarded what still appears at this stage to be a dodgy penalty for the home side although from the distance away that we were standing it would be hard to tell.  No cards were given in the game depsite some challenges that may sometimes warrant one- 7/10

Best Moment

I could write an essay on the best bits of the day as a whole but in terms of the match it would have to be Chorley's goal just a minute after the home side had taken the lead.  In something of a reflection of the quality of the game though, it was the M62 that provided most of the moments from the day as the paragraph below proves.

Funniest Moment

On the way to the game we saw a Swan at the side of the M62 motorway being guided by Police to safety.  Not a highlight of a funny moment you may think but just ten minutes earlier we had passed a Garden Barbecue in the middle of the motorway.

Seemingly strategically placed between the slow and middle lanes, it was a bizarre sight that perhaps should have been a warning for the mayhem that followed on the pitch with Rovers.

Worst Moment

As with the good and fun y moments there were a few bad ones too, with the penalty being a particular sickener but sadly there were too other moments that stuck out for the wrong reasons, one being the abuse of Shuker that led to him giving Rovers Fans the V sign and then a post-match incident which saw a broken seat hurled onto the pitch by a Rovers Fan.

Tranmere Man of the Match

Gareth Edds - After Shotton failed a late fitness test, Gareth Edds stepped in at right-back and did an excellent job there once more.  Charlie Barnett also had a good game and Ian Moore had a great second half but Edds is the worthy winner of the accolade this time around.

Connections

Rovers fielded former Pools striker Ian Moore upfront for this game but there were no former Rovers players in the Hartlepool side.

Rovers Fans

The 116 Rovers fans made themselves heard throughout the game for arguably the best Rovers atmosphere away from home this season.  The Superwhite Army Chant that lasted a good five minutes constant was a major plus for our excellent fans who deserved better on the night.

Hartlepool Utd Fans

Under 3,000 Pools fans were in attendance and those that were were quiet to say the least.  Perhaps it was the cold and the wet (something they should be used to) that kept them quiet?

Summary

A great awayday but sadly not the right result (again).  Other results have slightly favoured Rovers but if a win isn't picked up on Saturday there will be disappointment for a bad weeks' work on the road for Ronnie Moore's men.

Entertainment Value

The home side took their only two chances in the game whilst Rovers dominated the second half in particular but had little more to offer themselves in front of goal. 6/10
