Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll is on the verge of a mega move to Liverpool, after the side confirmed that a fee, expected to be in excess of £35million has been agreed. Rumours had been circulating all day which ended in Carroll having a transfer requested by Mike Ashley. It is now expected he will put pen to paper in the next few hours.
The 22 year old who has repeatedly pledged his future to Newcastle United and who signed a new 5 year contract with the club just over 3 months ago appears to be keen to go and is currently on his way to Merseyside for a medical.
The move is likely to see Carroll, who is currently sidelined with a fairly long term injury, triple his £30,000 a week wages and be expected to replace Fernando Torres as he makes his way to Chelsea.
The official Newcastle United statement on nufc.co.uk reads;
"The 22-year-old England international has this afternoon handed in a transfer request, which has reluctantly been accepted by the club, and Carroll is currently in talks with the Reds over a move to Anfield."
