It has been suggested today (Saturday 29th January) that NUFC have rejected an offer of £23M for hotshot striker Andy Carroll. The bid supposedly came from Tottenham Hotspur where manager Harry Redknapp is known to be an admirer of Carroll’s skill.
The young striker has bagged a respectable 11 Premier league goals so far this season but is currently sidelined with a thigh injury.
Will Tottenham return with an improved offer or will they accept that our club simply does not wish to part with Carroll?
Or Would you welcome his sale? - £23M is a lot of money and would become a record fee for a Newcastle player.
Can't sell. There's absolutely no guarantee-some would say no implication-that Ashley would reinvest the cash, and even if he did I don't think you can replace Carroll. In any case, the rumor comes with the statement that Ashley rejected the bid when I've read it.

Ashley isn't going to sell Carroll for anything close to that figure for one very important reason: Staying in the Premier League is worth more money than what Spurs are offering. Carroll is the reason we can stay up, not only this year, but next season as well (see Birmingham and Wolves). For all his faults as a club owner, he is a business man, and he wants to make his money back.
In order for Ashley to sell Carroll, he's going to have to be offered at least 40% of the revenues lost should we be relegated. Nothing else will be enough.
no he shouldnt sell him not at that price. Look at the mackems 18mil for bent, who have they replaced him with ? The market is way over inflated after the stuipid fee payed for bent by a desperate villa.
again no, i doubt he will cos the fans would a little closer to forgiving him after all hes done for us i would tell liverpool 50m plus torres and gerrard then maybe we might just consider a deal
think for that price it may be acceptable, i dont think carroll is a 35m player yet
as for getting someone else in to replace he's was considered a long term injury anyways wasnt he? needing a specialist from norway to look at his thigh
Ashleys not going to hoy his hand in his pocket for the big wages, If Liverpool is going to fork out £35m paying 100k a week wages wont be a problem either
I suppose every player has their price but Im glad they have knocked back the two offers. Its just come up that sources say we would accept 35 mill but again, why would they say that. Let the teams bid.
There are so many reasons why we shouldnt sell him but a few big/immediate reasons are,
1/ Who is out there to replace him long or short term. Short could possibly be Jay Boothroyd, but long term....Who knows.
2/ The effect it might have on the other players and especially the ones we are still looking to tie down on long term deals. Would Jose and Tiote (who were mentioned yesterday as clubs are glancing over) think twice about signing.
3/ We would lose more than 35 mill if we went down.
Just came on Talk Sport that Anelka would be part of the Torres deal. If so, and they still have 6-8 mill to weigh out on Charlie Adam, then would they want to spend a further 35 mill on Carroll.

this is wrong. we have to accept that the entitled clubs iof england get to take the best players away for themselves, but what exactly are we supposed to hope for as fans of a club outside that group if we lose an academy product after only half a season in the premier league showing promise?
are we just making up the numbers? i hate football
all that said, 35m is a lot more than his real market value. keep the money, loan someone in, and have a go in the summer at spending it. a big part of me says dont even bother then mind, as when you buy someone who looks decent we all expect them (tiote) to be taken away just as quickly by the same group of clubs. load of shite.
getn fkn sick of our football club, dont care about 35mil cos they wont spend even a tenth of that on a replacement , carrols in paper saying he dosent want to leave too, this is like selling alan shearer when his career was on the rise,,total lack of ambition by the club
disagree. the player is the only one who can drive this move, he has a contract here if he wants it, he cant be kicked out. players are always have the upper hand, so if he goes and you want someone to blame, why not be original and go for the player?
sky sources say he was driven away from training ground by kevin nolan and dont know where they have gone!!! lol they believe he is on his way to liverpool,,they would say that wouldnt they to keep people watching sky sports news, i dont think it will happen
I'd say Carroll is better than Villa right now. At least comparable. Put it this way, I'm not sure I'd accept a straight-up swap for Torres.
If there's any truth to this I have to point out that we're not being linked to any forward, anywhere. If we have to replace AC, we could do worse than Diego Forlan.
But what am I saying? I'm sure the 35M would disappear down the same hole as the 35M we got for Milner, Martins, Duff and Given.
Its on SSN that Newcastle has rejected the improved offer. Its going to be a bumpy one but who knows. We get even more wedge or we make a real statement for the future, tell the @#$%& to f00k off and every one loves Ashley again. I wont be holding my breath for a pint of the f00ka though.
bid rejected, hold firm ashley and the fans might just start liking and trusting you,, got the fear of god about half hour ago when sky said we have approached westham about carlton cole!!!! even shola scores more goald than him!!
I'm not hysterical. If I were, I'd be down on the fifth floor, punching the life out of a complete douchebag rat-supporting coworker.
Yeah, I'm upset. I don't care what the numbers are-we are at serious risk of relegation (if not this season, then next) with this sale. We've scored 36 league goals this season and Carroll got 11 of them in only 19 appearances.
so, you like to think of big bad ashley laughing all the way to the bank to cheer yourself up? its not right, tunyc, and you know it. thats not to paint a happy face on this, its just that we all know how much money ashley has put in, and that he's taken none out. so, there is no black hole. remember the swiss ramble link a few weeks ago? that guy showed our finances to be improving, and how bad they had been. it didnt show asset stripping or anything like it
No, this is not about Ashley-don't misrepresent me. It's about this being a BAD MOVE regardless of the bid. Believe me, I blame Carroll and his goddamn agent with their request at this point. I am pre-emptively throwing barbs at Ashley for predictably letting an already questionable squad decline (remind you of another season?). Tell me you have any confidence they'll spend significantly on a replacement.
today? no. summer? yes. like for like? no. spread throughout the squad? yes.
i picked you up on one daft comment you made. thats all. dont try to make me defend the whole situation on the back of that. you know where the milner money went, is my point.
i doubt either of us are in the mood to take this round in pointless circles right now though, eh?
28th November 2010, Andy Carroll: "I want to stay at Newcastle United for the rest of my life"
ah yes, bring on the clowns....
we'll have a few of these coming up i reckon.
Not exactly here to rub it in your faces but what bugs me is that these players talk utter garbage and spin us all a yarn and the first sign of something better and you won't see them for dust!
ok tunyc, pointless circles is your choice, i'm getting off here though, ta. see you next time round.
i thought you had realised how transfer fees worked, but if you are seriously suggesting ashley has been salting money away as players have left, despite all the evidence to the contrary, i think i've said all i can, other than to remind you again that we are expecting to run at a loss again this season, and would have received the last milner installment on the day he left villa for man city last august. i'm talking to myself though, arent i? you're going to come back with some tangenital nonsense that gives the impression i actually applaud this transfer, when i havent at all.
But don't suggest to me it's even-stevens to sell a player at the top of the market and bring in nothing or a scrapheap replacement. I don't have to know the intricacies of club finance to smell bullshit.
We've added another stream of revenue, just like with other sales. Maybe if we keep selling we'll be in the black enough on paper to spend. Sure, I get it from a business perspective. Problem: in this business, you need to interest the public in observing you as you work.
tunyc No, I've listened to every bit.

thats a jump from 'down the hole', though, isnt it?
