Martin Jol Linked With Toon As He Leaves Ajax

Former Spurs manager Martin Jol has left as manager of Ajax this evening by mutual consent, fueling speculation he is being lined up to replace the recently departed Chris Hughton as Newcastle United manager.

Jol who was 25/1 with the bookies has now been propelled to one of the favourites for the job and if the Italian Press are to be believed the Dutchman is on his way to Newcastle this evening.

His statement on leaving Ajax read as follows;

“With pain in my heart I say goodbye to this wonderful club.

We started something last summer that I would have finished. But I have come to realise that the expectations after last season were too high. We cannot meet such expectations.

The amount of criticism that the club has had to endure daily has led to unrest in the club and among players.

I take this decision consciously before AC Milan v Ajax (in the Champions League) is played (on Wednesday).

The coming weeks are very important and I sincerely hope that something happens in the squad to make it in the short term a winning team."

seems to me like a guy who will give up easy of he is complaining about ambitonions being to high and once its not workin out for him off he goes i give him a year MAX

He was linked to go in the summer to a premieship team, think it was the Hammers, as he was unhappy that the club were selling and not actually buying. So maybe they went back on the word of what was promised or he has saw it as a way to get back in the premiership, especially when he did a half decent job at Spurs.

But he will want cash and I can't see it being with us
