Newcastle United and England striker Michael Owen has arrived at Manchester United's Carrington training ground this morning for a medical ahead of his proposed move to the club. The 29 year old arrived at the ground this morning for a full medical after having his knee assessed yesterday.
Owen who published his own publicity brochure last month in a bid to lure clubs to sign him up had so far attracted the attention of Hull City and Stoke City; however he was always going to hold out for one of the top clubs to snap him up. There was also the issue of wages; Owen was on £110,000 a week at Newcastle, a price unlikely to be matched by many. Manchester United who have just lost top strikers Cristiano Ronaldo and Tevez will be able to offer Owen top money and Champions League football, which he will view as his way back into the England team.
Owen whose contract with Newcastle expired on the 1st July could join Manchester United as soon as next week if he passes all examinations and tests put to him by the medical team.
He scored 30 goals in 79 games over 4 years for Newcastle.
I'm finding it quite amusing how to the country Owen was a@#$%&signing for newcastle and joked about from the start, but he is a brilliant signing for Manchester United?
