Steve Harper was judged Man Of The Match for his performance against Liverpool at Anfield yesterday, by Tyne-Talk's resident player rater Wasim4nufc. Read on to see how the rest of the team faired .......................

Player Ratings

Steve Harper (7) - Made some good saves to keep the score down, although he didn't have an answer for two Alonso shots. Perhaps few keepers would though. Can't really be blamed for the goals either.

Habib Beye (5.5) - At fault for their 2nd goal with poor man marking, while he struggled against Riera too.

Fabricio Coloccini (5) - Once again couldn't handle Liverpool's attackers. He just doesn't have the confidence at the moment.

Sebastien Bassong (6) - He was perhaps our best defender, yet he wasn't great either. Just showed how bad things were for us because he made a few errors too.

Damien Duff (6) - He worked hard at left back, and did make one great challenge to deny Kuyt. Its not his position though so can't fault him too much either.

Alan Smith (5.5) - Worked hard in midfield, but at fault for their first goal. I'm not his biggest fan so the less I say the better.

Joey Barton (1) - A disgrace to the shirt. What a silly challenge for his sending off. He should have known the game was lost, and we have bigger games coming up which he could have played a huge role in. Some players just don't learn, and I'd be delighted if he never wore a toon shirt again.

Nicky Butt (5.5) - Wasn't up to the challenge of Mascherano, Gerrard and Alonso, and couldn't play any decent balls up top either.

Peter Lovenkrands (5) - Didn't really justify his inclusion and was taken off at half time. Didn't really get much ball though to his defence.

Obafemi Martins (5) - Did little whole game and hopefully its not that his playing with an injury. We need him for the games coming up.

Mark Viduka (5.5) - Did very little in the game, and could perhaps take some blame for their first goal.

Substitutes

Jonas Gutierrez (5) - Didn't really make an impact.

Michael Owen (N/A) - Wasn't on long enough for me to rate him.

Kevin Nolan (N/A) - Wasn't on long enough for me to rate him.

Positives
* Some other results went our way.

Negatives
* We could have lost by a huge margin, so the confidence levels may be even lower.
* Barton's red card.
* Our lack of goals.
* Our goal difference advantage got cut, which could cost us later perhaps.
* Time is Running out!

That report pretty much sums up our band of men at the moment!!!
Steve Harper was man of the match (no manager wants his keeper to be MOTM).
And Our only positive was that other results went our way.
I just hope Villa do us a favour tonight and shut out Hull.
