Who Should Take Responsibility For Clubs Downfall?

It's the 81st minute of the 35th game and the stats read 22 shots on goal to 1, 8 shots on target to 0, and 2 goals to 0. 11 players to 10 all in Liverpool's favour and still there seems to be no sense of urgency from the Newcastle players. For Newcastle 4 managers in one season, backed by a businessman, not a football man; has proved to be their downfall.

But can the lack of consistency be blamed on the upheaval at the club or the players who grace the pitch on a weekly basis? The same players who speak in the week about needing the crowd, about wanting to stay in the Premier League (and pick up their wages), the same players who tell the papers they have every faith but then play 90minutes and have just 1 chance on goal.

To top of the feeling at Anfield today Joey Barton felt he had something to prove on his return from injury, got red carded and left his team-mates to struggle without him.

So who should really be shouldering the blame, any one of the 4 managers the club has had, Keegan, Hughton, Kinnear or Shearer (not that any of them were/have been in place long enough)?

The player's who do not seem to gel, defend; know what the goal looks like or how to place the ball in the back of the net?

Or....

Mike Ashley the man who is so keen to get rid of the club he is prepared to slash the price by 50% just to find a buyer as soon as possible?

At the moment, the only people who definitely cannot be blamed for this season's performance are the fans who turn up every week, fill the stadium, cheer on their team and get behind the players regardless.

no point in pointing fingers yet, got three games to save this club - then we can point fingers.

To be honest Becksa I dont think that even in 3 games time there will be any easy way to point fingers. What difference will it make.

Whether we stay up or not we have had a sh1te season - that wont change

thats true mate. I just don't know what do with myself right now. I need to be focusing on something else in my life but just can't. I think that there are so many people to blame for this that until something positive happens i don't know how to think...

I personally think its down to;

Mike Ashley - for failing to bring in a consistent management regime with a solid leadership structure throughout the club. From the top to the bottom - and then through the youth academy also.

Had this have been in place we wouldn't have spent a good time of the season under a caretaker manager.

&

The players - they are not playing like the give a flying @#$%& and havent been for a long time.

Too much chopping and changing with the manager, not a good transfer window, injuries and then the players just not performing, too many times we drew when we should have won and lost when we should have taken something from games because of the players dropping off for a second.

Should Keegan take the rap or was he pushed?

Gotta bear in mind everything he complain about has now been fixed and we still havent improved.

Wise is out etc etc

The players should shoulder the blame along with Ashley.
Many players just havent played like they are capable of.
Ashley has turned the club inside out too.

Lets wait till the season has ended before we start a lynch mob.
I STILL believe we can wangle out of this though.
We just have to beat Boro Monday week and get a result against Fulham

Well there isnt an image of all the players all the fans or all the managers together available - which picture would you prefer??

Whatever was posted would have evoked the same response surely?

The players first and then all the other reasons that have been mentioned.

If I did my job with as much committment and work rate as the players have shown this season I'd be sacked.

And please don't go on about the poor wee souls having to work week in week out with different managers etc. We all have our cross to bear and without the benefit of their wonderful wages.

Why blame Kevin Keegan? only a goon would have put up with someone else making the signings for the club!

looking back to the start of the season we went to old trafford and drew, perhaps could have gone away with all 3 point, jonas was immense that day things were looking ok, then keegan spoke out & who could blame him, if you were told you had full control over transfers then 3 new faces come in who you have never heard of, i think that would pi$$ most managers off!

why look to blame anyone!

just look at our current squad, they are all has-beens, who are not good enough for top sides so they were off loaded, Nicky Butt, Damien Duff, Mark Viduka, Alan Smith, Michael Owen, Geremi, & now Kevin Nolan,

These were all offloaded cos they were sh!te for there clubs, a decent manager knows when a player is reaching his sell by date and then offers him to Newcastle!

believe me this is what we have a team of players no one really wants, i would only hang onto about three of our current squad, the rest can go F*ck themselves!

I don't blame Keegan for walking. I blame him for taking the job knowing the rules and then walking because of them! He knew all to well when he came back that he would be working for a Director of Football and that he wouldn't have full say over the transfers - if wasn't cool with it then he should never have come back! I don't blame him for not liking the rules, but you can't say he timed leaving all that well. Had he stayed and spoken out about what was happening then perhaps something would have changed. Had he stayed im sure we would be between 8th-12th right now as we all expected to be.

Knowing the rules?

what these rules?

Dennis Wise quotes:

'I am here to help Kevin as much as possible with bringing young players through and also recommending certain players to him. He will say yes or no. He has the final word,' he is reported to have said.

'I am not going to do things like bringing players in behind his back. Everything that happens will be run past him and he will say yes or no.'

Keegan did not know who the F*ck Xisco & Nacho Gonzalez were?

so what are you on about becksa

he knew that he wouldn't have control over all the transfer man, he even said that, can't find the quote but he knew what was coming! I am not saying that he didn't have any right to get upset about Xisco and Nacho, im just saying that he deserves to shoulder some blame - not all!

Disagree sorry, cos the above quotes completely contradict what Wise involvement was!

if he was told he would have the final say, he should have had the final say!

and as for not bringing players in over your head?

how do you explain that?

even shearer who is in the job now said he agreed with what Kevin did, and he wouldnt have anyone working above him!

and look what happened days later wise is gone,

told you stop blaming anyone,

just blame the useless bunch of greedy money grabbing B*stards that are gonna see us plummit, those sh*t players we have!

I agree that it is the players fault, but also our shi.thouse list of previous managers who signed said players should have some accountability..

i totally agree that this entire arguement is a little premature - we have three more 90 mins chance to save this club! Nonetheless go down or stop up fingers will be pointed. The players have simply been terrible this year.
