Liverpool host Newcastle tomorrow lunchtime in another televised match (1.30pm KO), with Liverpool chasing Manchester United for the Premier League title and Newcastle chasing for a place in the Premier League next season. Newcastle travel to Anfield having failed to win in their last 9 games and having taken just 2 points from their last 6 matches.

Liverpool who have scored 15 goals in their last 4 games, scoring 4 goals a game in 3 consecutive matches, have lost just once in their last 6.

For Liverpool Steven Gerrard is expected to resume his place in the starting line-up having missed the clubs last 4 games through a groin injury. Manager Rafa Benitez has very few injuries to contend with and could bring Albert Riera and Fabio Aurelio back into the side.

Alan Shearer on the other hand had to endure his players succumbing to injury against Portsmouth on Monday night, and will miss Jose Enrique (hamstring) once again. Steven Taylor remains sidelined (ankle) but Joey Barton who was an unused substitute last week could start. Jonas Gutierrez is also fit to play having recovered from an ankle injury.

Despite having pencilled in this match as his return date, Ignacio "nacho" Gonzalez does not appear to be mentioned after failing to be fit for the reserves this week, therefore we can assume he remains injured.

Shearer may recall Kevin Nolan and Ryan Taylor, after dropping them both against Portsmouth and there is a suggestion that Michael Owen may start the match on the bench.

Fact: - Tomorrow's game brings together the club who has lost the fewest games all season with the club who has won the fewest games all season.

Fact: - The last 3 Premier League matches between these two sides have produced an aggregate score of Liverpool 11 - 1 Newcastle.

A different point of view:
Someone asked Alan about Barton (he was ok), he also clarified that just : Enrique and S. Taylor were not fit; we deduce that (considering Nacho as part of the team) if he was not mentioned with those 2...>he'll travel to Liverpool (with the rest) and might make a sub appearance.

As we have been saying for two years...where is the cover for LB,? N'Zog wasnt and Duff isnt. Colo looks like he has no clue. Has Smith done anything with the ball? At least Barton looks for the pass forward.

i didn't watch the first half, sleeping - early start here in USA, and didn't have much hope. To be fair we don't look that bad at the minute. my stream is a little shitty so im only getting every other minute but we are doing ok.

You know I have supported NUFC for all I can remember, and I can honestly say, that Barton getting sent off now, was the lowest point in that time. I can't believe the players we've signed, the attitude we show, and the lack of ability our highly paid "stars" are showing. Its a disgrace, I so wish I wasn't watching now, because it hurt like anything!

If a team like Wigan or Bolton could get him for £1-2mil then I think they'd have him but if we want near what we paid for him then I don't think many will want him.

nah, we'll keep him. then while he's out he'll have more cctv fights and do 6 months jail. then when he's due back, if we lose a couple, people will come on here saying he's 'done his time' or 'he's a great player' and 'he'll put it behind him now, and knuckle down'

Have the defenders learnt nothing this season? First goal offside - goals two and three - NO MARKING IN OUR BOX!

We are lucky it was only 3-0 as it could have been 7 or 8 just like at SJ's when Given as the MOM.

Barton is a total a.s.s.hole - now he will miss the last three games!

Bartons tackle wasnt malicious it was just clumsy.
If anyone else had done that no-one would be saying too much but because its Barton everyone is calling for his head.

Oh and we were sh1te today.
Roll on Next Monday cos despite all this, I STILL believe we can wangle out of this.

As one of Shearer's fellow pundit would say "shocking defending". Duff was a total fish out of water at leftback, waste of a half decent player and the centre backs didnt have an idea between them. Luckily for Newcastle Torres was not risked or he could easily of bagged a first half hattrick such was Liverpool's dominance and it was ultimately a very comfortable result for The Reds. As for Barton, he is a plank. Always has been, always will be. It is a shame because I have said for sometime that underneath his idiocy there is a half decent player unable to get out.
