Chris Hughton has named goalkeeper Steve Harper as tomorrow night's skipper. The 33 year old who signed a 3 year extension to his contract earlier in the year, replaces Nicky Butt who had been deputising in Michael Owen's absence. Butt is now sidelined after picking up a knee injury against Bolton at the weekend.
Hughton told nufc.co.uk;
"This is a game when you need men on the football pitch and when the call is for that you need a leader and Steve Harper is certainly that.
"Nicky Butt has served us well in that position, as has Michael Owen before that. I think everybody here will be delighted for Steve Harper and certainly he's the right man for the job."
Harper, who has been at the club for 16 years was rewarded with the No.1 spot after Shay Given's departure, will be proud to lead his side out on home ground tomorrow night.
The mascots stood and watched while Harps marked his goal kick spots etc then he ushered the poor bairns up towards the centre spot. Poor bairns never even got to kick the ball once. Terrible Stephen son, it costs good fans £1,000 to have their bairns as mascot and to not even get a shot at goal was terrible
but dude it's not once in a lifetime, it's once every time you hand over a grand! it should be a free draw for all kids with a ticket. asking for a grand is fckn shameful.
