Hughton: We Came Here To Take A Draw At Least

Caretaker manager Chris Hughton left the Reebok Stadium this afternoon gutted to have lost 3 points of which he believed his side should have had at least 1. Hughton who replaced Obafemi Martins for Mark Viduka, late into the second half to jeers of "you don't know what you're doing" told the Official website that they deserved more.

He said;

"I thought we got into some very good areas and had a lot of attacking possession.

Oba had a great chance to score before half-time and we then applied a lot of pressure late in the game.

We also had a great shout for a penalty when Jlloyd Samuel handled from Fabricio Coloccini.

The lad's hands were up and some referees give those and we thought it was a penalty. But to lose the game was bitterly disappointing. We came here looking to take a draw at the very least.

Now we have to pick ourselves up for Wednesday against Manchester United. It's a tough, tough game, but our lads will need no motivating against the champions in front of our own fans."

Meanwhile Bolton manager Gary Megson has praised referee Alan Wiley for making the right decision and not awarding Newcastle a penalty.

He told Setanta;

"Whether it's a penalty, I'm not so sure now I have seen it.  Davo is a big lad and [Bassong has] come through the wrong side but it's probably six and two threes.

In terms of the handball, yes it has hit his hand but what Jlloyd is supposed to do about it I don't know.

Some you get some you don't and we were on the receiving end of one at Everton two weeks ago that was given as a handball and a penalty when it wasn't in the box.

I would think on both occasions that neither was a penalty."

We're lost with these guys in charge. They know nothing of tactics. As soon as we went behind today I knew it was over. Just lots of 45-yard balls that were easily cleared by the Bolton back four and half-assed attempts to release Martins and Gutierrez.

Definitely a handball by Samuel. "What Jlloyd is supposed to do about it, I don't know." Uh, how about keep his hands down and let the ball go by. You'd be a moron or blind to think otherwise. Was definitely a penalty on Bassong as well, though.

Why why why oh fu<king why was Martins taken off for Viduka?
Would it not have been better to take off Barn Door Amoebi instead?

That would assume our interim "managers" understand tactics and such. (Sm154)
