Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Bolton v Newcastle

By Tyne-Talk

Newcastle travel to the Reebok stadium tomorrow without former Bolton midfielder Kevin Nolan after he picked up a red card last weekend for a tackle on Everton's Victor Anichebe. He begins his 3 match ban. Just 2 points separate the two sides in the Premier League table with Bolton sitting in 12th whilst Newcastle are just behind in 15th.

Newcastle go into the game on the back of a goalless draw against Everton and 2 draws and 1 win in their last 6 matches. Bolton host on the back of a 2-1 win against West Ham, having won 2 and drawn 1 of their last 6 games. Both teams are looking to break their way into the top 10 and both teams will be desperate to pick up all 3 points.

Chris Hughton named Mark Viduka, Obafemi Martins and Alan Smith on the bench against Everton last week, but this week Martins is pushing for a starting place after claiming his season starts tomorrow!

Habib Beye, Michael Owen, Joey Barton, Xisco and Danny Guthrie are all still unavailable through injury whilst Andy Carroll is likely to start on the bench after recovering from an ankle injury.

Bolton manager Gary Megson is without Joey O'Brian who is recovering from a knee operation, but he welcomes back Johan Elmander and Gavin McCann.

With just 2 points separating the teams and Obi back tomorrow I'm sure we will get at least a draw.

C'mon the Toon.

Me too - I'm becoming more confident we can get the points the nearer it gets.

Yesterday I wasnt sure, today im half convinced. Perhaps prior to KO il be 100% sure - then they will repeatedly lose the ball and any faith I had will disappear lol.

But until then il remain confident!

Newcastle must win this. I'm not putting pressure. But then they have to play Man Utd.. hardly getting points out of this match.

I'm going to wait until I see the line-ups. I predicted a win vs. Everton, but knew that was a mistake as soon as I saw Ameobi/Lovenkrands up front...

Especially when Ryan Taylor can cross the ball..which we have been missing for a while!

We need Jonas to learn how to cross or pass when in a decent position... Got to get Ameobi off though

That was crap.. Newcastle are playing with absolutely no game plan whatsoever.. And it's not because Kinnear is away.. He knows nothing, he's a "motivater", whatever that means. I'm pretty sure if you provide your players with a tactical platform that they can believe in then they will be motivated by that.
Keegan was no better. His basic belief was if attacking doesn't work then attack more.
Allardyce was the worst of all, with his long ball, long throw, long nap for me while we get thumped game plan.

We need a manager who can guide the team to act like a team rather than a group of talented individuals plus Shola Ameobi.

Is there any manager's around that has tactical nous that would consider taking the job given the stature of the club and the unforgiving nature of the fans?
