Last week Joe Kinnear said he was of the understanding that Aussie striker Mark Viduka was likely to retire at the end of the season after several injuries during his 18month stint at the club. However the 33 year old who played a solid game yesterday & assisted Damian Duff in scoring the winning goal, has announced that he would like another year and that he hadn’t considered retirement.

He told the Evening Chronicle; 

"I never had it in my head that I might be retiring and, for me, it would be ideal if I could play one more year here.

I enjoy doing it. I love coming to work every day, especially when we win games. It's a beautiful place to be. Ideally, I'd love to play another year for Newcastle, but if it's not to be it's not to be. I work hard for the team whenever I'm used, but football's a funny game and anything can happen."

Talking of yesterday’s win he said;

"It was looking like it was going to end up a draw and it was a big three points for us. It's always nice as a striker to be involved and to show a little bit of your style.

We didn't really get into those positions too much, but Damien and me have struck up a bit of an understanding between ourselves in training.

We do those sorts of moves all the time, it was automatic. I'm just very happy to be back on the field. It was nice to get on. To be involved in a winner in the last minute was something very special."

I would be suprised if he made it through the rest of the year injury free....he looked way short of matches this last weekend. Honsetly, if he makes it through the season and will sign for half what he is on now(not likely) then keep him for a year.

He has to prove fitness first!

I'd give it him but for less wages, since he's on around £60k a week isn't he?

yeah, huge waste of money right now - but no more a waste than the 55k we are giving Smith or the 65K we are giving Duff.....if he wants to stay he should take a pay cut!

i don't think there's any chance he'll be offered the same terms for another year. i'd like him to stay, he's a good squad member at least.

but on the other hand, if there's partnerships being developed in training it might be better to focus on the younger players. good on him tho, he ain't got long left and he's still doing good things on the pitch, when he's fit.

Maybe he'd take a pay-as-you-play deal like louise saha.

hes a quality player and there is not another viduka in the leauge and that is a fact ... i would give him a pay as you play deal..... hes so differant from any comparison made towards him with other players ..... hes just like Martins .......... unique.

Give him another year. We need time to find another replacement or for Kinnear to groom Ameobi. Going to take a while.
