Goals from Simon Yeo, scoring his 10th goal in 6 games and Gary Taylor-Fletcher gave the Imps a 2-1 victory over a hard working Cambridge side. City now lay just 3 points off 3rd place and 6 points above 8th place Darlington.

City began the game attacking the Stacey West end of the ground. The game started quietly but City got a corner 4 minutes in, the corner eventually fell to Hanlon 30 yards out but he didn't have quite as much success as he did on Wednesday night against Boston.

Good interplay between GTF and Green saw the former release a through ball for Butcher but the ball was overhit and Butcher couldn't quite connect with it properly. The strong wind made it hard for the clubs to play decent balls forward. Cambridge gained a free kick found it's way into Marriott's arms, he distributed the ball to Bloomer, he fed Butcher who ran at the Cambridge defence before chipping to the unmarked Yeo who controlled the ball before smashing it into the net to score his 10th goal in his last 6 games and take him to 18 for the season.

Dan Chillingworth was injured in the 22nd minute and was stretchered off, he was replaced by Jermaine Easter. Minute's later GTF volleyed over from a Sandwith corner. A great passing move saw Yeo and Butcher link up before supplying Gain, the skillful midfielder skipped over the defender and crossed the ball into the box and GTF met it with a stinging volley to make it 2-0 with only 25 minutes gone and it looked as though it was just a question of how many City would score.

A cross from Webb which was met by Tudor, provided the half's only other major incident although the midfielder somehow widely missed despite not being marked.

The second half started just as slowly as the 1st had but then came a-wake up call for City after they'd switched off after going 2-0 up. Shane Tudor collected the loose ball on the right before providing a cross for Daniel Webb who scored against his former club from 2 yards out to make it 2-1 with just over 35 minutes left.

GTF almost restored the 2 goal deficit immediatly, after going on a trademark run, he broke into the 6 yard area but couldn't round Ruddy who claimed the ball. A Sandwith corner 2 minutes later was headed away easily by Tann. Good work between Hanlon and Butcher saw them release Gain on the left but the midfielder's cross went awry and straight to Ruddy.

Cambridge were playing well but weren't creating any particully decent chances however, soon they started playing an all out attack to try and stop them falling to their 23rd defeat of the season. However, despite several very close calls, they failed to find the back of the net again and City won 2-1, staying in 5th but only 3 points off 3rd place Macclesfield and 6 points above 8th place Darlington.
