Imps defender, Gareth McAuley is set for a call up to the Northern Ireland squad after gaining a very good reputation for being solid at the back and good going forward for the Imps.
The popular defender is gaining a great reputation which has seen him linked with moves to Premiership sides, Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City, all that after only 3 months with the Imps.
Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, Northern Ireland manager, Lawrie Sanchez revealed that he has been impressed with the reputation Gareth has quickly earnt and will be watching a Lincoln game within the near future to see if the former Coleraine defender is good enough for a step up to international fame.
"Gareth is one of the up and coming players I am determined to see before our next international in February," said Sanchez.
"By all accounts he has been very impressive for Lincoln.
"He has clearly settled in very well after moving from the Irish League and is certainly someone who is worth looking at."
The Imps infact have 3 Northern Irish players but none of the other two have been called up to the full squad since they joined the club. Most City fans have revealed they are disappointed that Imps captain, Paul Morgan hasn't gained a call up but it will come as great news that another Imp is set for the international stage after former Imp, Allan Pearce played for New Zealand whilst at the club.
However, Gareth isn't the only player with a chance of a call up, several other players from various levels might get a chance. They are 30-year-old Marcus Bignot from QPR, 25-year-old Oldham captain Dean Holden and Rangers youngster Brian McLean.
We will keep you updated as much as possible as to Gareth situation and you never know, he could end up playing against England and possibly (although not likely) in the World Cup, should Northern Ireland make it.
