Imps defender Simon Weaver has handed in a transfer request after failing to hold down a first team place. The defender who was a near ever present over the past 2 years before the arrival of Jamie McCombe has decided that at 26, he can't afford to spend time on the subs-bench.
Weaver was one of Keith Alexander's first signings after he signed from non-league team, Nuneaton. He was a near ever present from then on until the arrival of Jamie McCombe in March, since then, he hasn't really started any matches for the Imps and now with the arrival of the very impressive Gareth McAuley, the popular defender sees very little chance of getting a decent run in the team.
Weaver joins Ben Futcher to hand in a transfer request and it is believed that either a lower League 2 side or a high up conference side will come for him soon although if they don't, he will leave at the end of the season when his contract expires.
Weaver has so far played 101 games for the Imps whilst scoring 5 times including a goal in the playoffs which helped City get to the playoff final in an unbelieveable season.
