Another questionable City performance saw the Imps go 2-0 down before a late surge saw us pull back to 2-2 with less than a minute to go only to then throw it away by conceeding a 3rd goal that was almost identical to the other two scored.
The first few minutes of the game were cagey with neither side really making a decent attempt on goal until a run by Beagrie saw him chip the ball after easily rounding West and Kell headed into the net with Alan Marriott well out of position.
Lincoln almost equalised immediatly equalised when Yeo had a volley blocked after a T-Fletcher cross. The ball went out for a corner but as usual, it only made it to the first defender.
Scunthorpe had the next chance as on loan Andy Keogh ran into the box and shot high and it was heading into the goal but Marriott made an excellent (although one of his few) saves in the game.
City on a corner in the 34th and it was floated in and Futcher's header went narrowly wide. Beagrie then eventually got the ball from the resulting goal kick but his shot was easily saved by Marriott.
Scunthorpe keeper Musslewhite must have thought he was still in training as all crosses were being straight to him without any challenges what so ever. This was another common theme this afternoon. To be honest, the first half was nothing but embarrasing with half the players looking like they couldn't, for lack of a better term, be bothered. Instead of being patient and playing the ball to another player, everytime we got the ball, regardless of how close the nearest Scunny player was, we just hoofed it into the crowd or over the stand. Our pass completion rate in the first half must have only been in the 15% region. It was ridiculous.
In the 2nd half, West almost immediatly gained a free kick, he took it and it was chipped into the box where Futcher headed it but couldn't get sufficient power on it to trouble Musslewhite.
T-Fletcher then ran one on one with Musslewhite although he was taking his time and was quickly caught up, he shot to the former Hull keeper's left and it was well saved before falling to Pearson, however, the onloan striker shot well over from 5 yards.
Deja vu as Scunthorpe then went and scored again, a Beagrie cross was headed in by Butler to make it 2-0 with Marriott way out of position yet again.
Keith brought Littlejohn on for the irrevelevant Pearson and almost immediatly, Lincoln were awarded a penalty Yeo was brought down yet again by Crosby but at the 5th time of asking, we finally got one. T-Fletcher stepped up and shot passed Musslewhite, however, the ref wasn't happen so he had to take it again but same result and City were back in the game.
Cleveland Taylor's volley in the 83rd minute was well saved by Marriott and then on the 85th, a foul by Stanton on Gain earnt City a free kick but as usual, it was wasted.
City gained a corner in the 90th minute, it went over everybody except one of the three 6'4+ players in the box. Futcher headed in his first of the season but most City fans are still unconvinced about his commitment.
The way the last 20 minutes had gone in general indicated now that if any team was going to win it, it would be us, we had all the posession, the chances and outclassed Scunny for those 20 minutes, hold on a minute, why has the Scunthorpe scoreboard operater added another goal for Scunthorpe? Oh yes, that's right, in the 4th minute of injury time, Beagrie ran into the box unchallenged (again) and cross it to the diving Butler who's header went into the City net after Marriott was poorly positioned yet again.
Typical City, play crap, conceed a few, get back into it again throw it away again.
Going Up????? You're having a laugh.
