Gay Meadow, soon to be demolised is a ground that I didn't particully enjoy visiting despite the fact that we won. It is a conference quality ground and I am not looking forward to any re-visits in the future

MATCH : NATIONWIDE LEAGUE DIVISION 3 : SHREWSBURY TOWN 1 LINCOLN CITY 2

DATE : Saturday 31st August 2002

METHOD OF TRAVEL : I went on the official coaches but didn't know anyone and ended up sitting at the back of the coach with a load of random people including one who described a random electricity tower on an otherwise unused hill as "beautiful".

THE GROUND : Having being the only person in the away end until about half past two, I had plenty olf time to take in the ground around me without being distracted. The ground is of an average size for this division with quite a large pitch. The away end, like most of the ground is terracing and offers a great view of our half of the pitch, however, this stand is let down by it's inability to create an atmosphere and that the steps are really shallow, you can't sit down or anything without having to lean against 7 or 8 steps. The stand to the right was a pitch length terrace with the most beautiful backdrop I've seen at a football ground, however, the stand itself is quite small and isn't very appealing. The stand opposite us was a similar stand to ours but it was without a roof. The final stand was an all seated stand with 2 separate rooves, however, this was a nice stand and by far the best at the ground.

ATMOSPHERE FROM CITY FANS : Pretty crap due to our small numbers.

ATMOSPHERE FROM SHREWSBURY FANS : Also pretty crap despite them being ahead for the vast majority of the match.
