The vastly experienced Preece joined the Imps in 2012 as back up goalkeeper to Paul Farman. It was deemed as a decent signing given that he had been in the Championship the previous year, and he has become a player coach whilst at Sincil Bank.

The vastly experienced Preece started his career in 1994 as a trainee at home town club Sunderland, he wouldn't make an appearance for the Blakccats however before signing from Darlington in 1997. He became a regular in the Darlington line up, help them to the brink of Playoff glory before a £300,000 move to Aberdeen.

Seemingly a back up member of the squad, Preece would make 89 league appearances for the Scottish side over a six season period, with his career there ending with a sending off in a defeat at Hibernian.

A spell with OB Odense followed before a return to England with Barnsley. Preece again failed to be a regular though and only made 7 appearances in a three year spell. He had a trial at Portsmouth before eventually being offered a deal at Lincoln in a player/coach type of role.

Preece made his debut just before Christmas as City won at Dartford and he replaced Farman for brief periods as the regular number one suffered with errors in his game. Preece's influence off the pitch was excellent as Farman improvement and he can regularly be heard helping Farman with his game.
