Reaction to Scott Spencer's 2010/11

Scott Spencer was another one of Tilson's signings that came with a bit of hype and given Spencer's rant at Southend boss Paul Sturrock about not playing, City fans thought they would be getting a bit a coup, something that wasn't the case as he struggled to make any sort of an impact.

I remember when we signed Spencer I was quite pleased. He had been linked with us from the moment that Tilson had took over and he had a decent record of 4 goals in 10 games in League One for Southend, that equates to around 18 goals a season if played through the entire campaign. We signed him and Tilson was delighted, but then Tilson didn't play him often.

I got quite annoyed that we appeared to be wasting money on a striker that Tilson seemingly had no intention on playing, but then when he did get a decent run, you sort of saw why he wasn't being played. He rarely touched the ball when on the pitch and at times seemed afraid to get stuck in, often backing out of challenges.

He wasn't getting that many shots in either and the ones he was, weren't really likely to go in and to be honest, based on his displays so far, it appears to be a poor bit of business from Tilson.

His contract expired at the end of the season and Tilson decided to let him go, hardly a surprise given that he only managed two shots in ten games.
