Ex-Imps getting released

The close-season has seen a lot of ex-Imps culled from their clubs. Some never got the chance to play due to injury, whereas some had seemingly done very well and their release comes as a bit of a surprise. Other's have not been offered a new contract but have been offered the opportunity to rejoin that club on trial in the summer.

Following the news that Ashley Grimes had been released by Millwall following a successful loan spell, news has filtered through that numerous ex-Imps have been released by their clubs.

Kevin Ellison, Lincoln City Lee Beevers is one of the more noteable releases after two years at Colchester. He played in their 7-1 win over Norwich last season, an excellent result considering Norwich have won promotion twice since. However, his spell at Colchester Road was full of injuries and he only made a small handful of appearances in his two years there.

Kevin Ellison (left) was a popular Imp whilst on loan at Sincil Bank, was being the main word in that sentence. He joined Chester in the summer of 2004 and on his first return to Lincoln, despite being given a positive reaction by City fans, he decided to abuse the fans after scoring and he became exceptionally disliked amongst fans. He had been at Rotherham since 2009 but after a loan spell at Bradford, he has been released from his contract with the Millers.

Former loanee Michael Uwezu spent the end of the season at Northampton and has been told that he won't be offered a new contract, but he has been given the opportunity to rejoin the club on a trial basis in the pre-season....in a similar way to when Keith offered the same chance to Niall McNamara and Aaron Wilford in 2004.

Another former loanee in the form of Joe Heath has also left his club. Exeter City had loaned him out to Hereford during the season and has been deemed insufficient to Exeter's needs.

"Jimmy" Sangare was at Sincil Bank on trial in January but left after less than a day after being offered a contract at Oxford. However, after just four appearances he has had his contract terminated.

Steve Tilson is set to reveal his retained list over the next few days.

Joe Heath, and maybe Michael Uwezu wouldn't be bad ones.

I'd love to see Lee Beevers back at the club, think he'd be pretty damn good along side Danny Hone. (fingers crossed he stays) Only concern would be his fitness, but if he could get a good pre-season under his belt i reckon he'd be a top signing for us.
