Former Lincoln City goalkeeper Alan Marriott has organised a memorial match for Richard Butcher this Saturday. Butcher unexpectedly died in January this year and since then Marriott has helped set up the Richard Butcher Memorial Fund.
THE RICHARD BUTCHER MEMORIAL FUND
Butcher and Marriott were team-mates a Lincoln between November 2002 and June 2005, and again for a month in October 2005, they formed two integral parts of the "Team Lincoln" era in that time and were good friends off of the pitch. They remained friends until Butcher's unexpected death in January this year, and Marriott helped set up the Richard Butcher Memorial Fund, and this Saturday they will have a charity football match in Lincoln to help raise some money for the fund.
Although teams are not confirmed, Marriott has confirmed that Jason Lee, Dean Walling, Terry Fleming, Keith Oakes, Shane Clarke, Grant Brown, Jamie Forrester, Mark Hone and Kevin Pilkington will all take part in the match.
The match will be played at Ruston's Sports Club on Newark Road in Lincoln on Saturday May 14th with an 11am kick off. Entry is free but there will be collection buckets about and a raffle with prizes including signed football shirts, memorabilia, high street vouchers and electrical goods.
Ruston's will also be screening the FA Cup final between Manchester City and Stoke City after the match
