In an article that sounds like the title to a Harry Potter film, Lincoln City fan Ben has written a match summary for the game against Aldershot and Robert Patterson has given an indepth reaction to relegation and the season in general.
Ben (ImpsSupporter on the forum)'s summary of the match
A Lincoln City loss to Aldershot combined with Barnets win against Port Vale condemned Lincoln into relegation.
It was a cagey start to the match with both teams taking time to settle. Gavin McCallum then tested the Aldershot keeper with a low drive going straight into his arms. A good bit of build up play saw Ashley Grimes send a shot over the bar as the Imps pushed for the opener. Elliot Parrish then denied a Aldershot opener before the end of the first half..
In the second half Green cleared off the line early on before the visitors were awarded a penalty. The Imps heads dropped and not long after two more goals flew in and with confirmation through that Barnet had beat Port Vale, cue the anger and frustration. Lincoln are now a non-league club
Robert Patterson's Indepth Reaction
First of all, thankyou to whoever it was who tried to pick me up when I was absolutely bawling my eyes out. At 24 years of age, you'd have expected to take Relegation "like a man". Instead, relegation hit me hard and, I guess like you all, was a tough pill to swallow.
The Blue Square Premier Division is not one to my liking. As most of you know, I come from Essex, and had the "privilege" of supporting my actual local club, Grays Athletic, a) in the old Vauxhall Conference, and b) in the last few days as a BSP side. I admit, that the football I saw, was far from pretty. It was F**KING DIRE!!!!
Anyone who thinks that this division will be a walk in the park is as deluded as the next person who thinks that we will storm this stupid and poxy league.
I'm hurt
I'm extremely upset.
I am a Lincoln fan, despite the fact that I'm not from Lincoln.
The whole day has hurt. It feels like someone has stabbed me in the heart, and then twisted it. Twice. I cannot bear the thought of Hayes and bleeding Yeading, Braintree Town or Newport County on a cold and wet Tuesday night.
I cannot bear the thought that actually, this is real. We are a CONFERENCE side. The words that I want to say to the players are simply unbroadcastable. I actually hate the likes of Silly Bollocks Ben Hutchinson (above, right). Relegation son, it aint worth a Million quid.
And you know, I blame Chris Sutton (below, left). That miserable, monotonous, tosspot. Management wasn't for you, but still, you decided to give it a shot for the pre-season. Only f**k knows what you were thinking, taking us to Staines and all that Sh*t. Yes, you were trying to take us down. And you @#$%& succeeded kid.
I
want to get this whole thing out, so I'm sorry if this sounds like a misplaced rant. I'm so hurt it's not really real. Tomorrow, it'll sink in. And yet tomorrow I'll realise that the Conference (no matter how much a stupid Betting firm dresses it up to be some glorified "Premier League") is reality. Lincoln will wake up to 5th division football.
And for what? A bunch of KNOBS who don’t care. I don’t care if any of you read this. If you've got the bottle, you can message me back by PM or whatever the hell you like. You never gave a toss for this football club. You never gave a toss for the fans of this football club. Nor did you give a s*it for this small city.
You failed to deliver what was a simple task. Survival. The way you bottled it today epitomised the entire season. You just didn't care. You didn't have that spark. That love for the club that we all have. You never proved it. The only one I saw care was Daniel Hone. You, brother... the tears were echo'd by myself.
Should we become one of those rare clubs that return within a season, I will be elated to the tune that we will be back in the league once more. And to those who don't believe...
We don't need passengers on this trip. It's going to be a long old trip in the Conference. Yet, I know you lot will at least, help me, and you're fellow die-hards, through the pain.
I wish you a pleasant summer.
Rob.
