The Players of 2009/10 : Ian Pearce

Ian Pearce is to put it nicely, a bit of a nutter. He's one of those people who you wouldn't want to meet down a dark alley somewhere, but he showed why he had played in the Premiership with some decent performances in defence......the less said about his attacking side, the better.

There was a time earlier this season when the Imps fans would often see themselves a goal down or two and instead of bringing on a striker, Sutton would bring on Pearce. Normally you'd think that wasn't that bad until you realised that Pearce spent most of his career in defence.

He wasn't a Ben Futcher, Jamie McCombe or Gareth McAuley, defenders who went up front and scored every now and then, he was just a lump to put up front. He did however manage to set up a goal in the 93rd minute against Accrington.

Pearce didn't come into his own though until a small run in the heart of the defence where he made a difference and his experience told. He was the calm head that saved a lot of goals.....with the exception of Port Vale when City were 3-0 down inside 15 minutes and that includes Port Vale missed a penalty.

The assistant manager is good back up player, although you'll rarely see him next season we feel.

Added a bit of steel in my opinion....didn't miss much in the air and I wouldn't want to go in for a 50/50 with him!!

Added experience which in my humble opinion is something we lack.

I am no Kerr fan and think it is a travesty he is captain.

To add experience to last years squad you could have recruited anyone with a minimum CV of having turned 21 and played one full season in the Ryman league.

Green was Captain at one point on the basis that he was the longest serving player available at the club. Now as good as he may be, Duncan Edwards he's not.
