Grimsby Town were today relegated to the Blue Square Premier division after losing at Burton. The Mariners needed to beat Burton and hope that Barnet failed to beat promoted Rochdale, but a 3-0 defeat at the Pirelli meant that Grimsby were relegated.
Grimsby's relegation is justly deserved. The club have broken their own club record for a run of games without victory twice in the space of three years and they were one of the worst teams in the division throughout the season.
They need to beat Burton Albion and hope results went their way, however, former Imp Greg Pearson set Burton on their way to a 3-0 win. Burton's second came in the first half from distance and this prompted an attempted pitch invasion by Grimsby fans. The third was scored from a free kick.
However, Grimsby's result mattered little as Barnet won 1-0 at home to Rochdale, meaning that even a win would have sent Grimsby down.
Some Grimsby fans will argue that they shouldn't have been relegated, but at the end of the day they would have been relegated last season had it not been for the points deductions of other clubs, they have only had 3 seasons since 1992/3 where they've not lost more than they've won and no team that goes 25 games without winning deserves to stay up.
I have nothing personal about Grimsby fans. They have some excellent and knowledgable fans, such as the guy who runs CodAlmighty, but someone had to go down and they have proven over the last two years that they are amongst the worst sides in the division.

would be great if they go down another division, could soon be cods v boston again lol
