The pointless endeavours of being a Lincoln squad player

Many have been asking this for weeks but a strange substitution at Cheltenham has forced me to ask the question "What is the point of having players such as Michael Gordon, Clark Keltie and James Reid at the club when you have no intention of playing them?"

About half way through the second half at Cheltenham Town, Steven Lennon picked up an injury and needed to go off. With the Imps being 1-0 down and Lennon playing in an attacking midfield role, many were expecting another midfielder such as Keltie, Reid or Butcher to come on and try to help get a goal, but Sutton decided to strangely bring Nathan Baker (a defender on).

This got me thinking about some of the players who are at this club and never really get a look in. Neither James Reid or Danny Stephens have played a single minute since joining the club last month, whereas Keltie has only made four cameos and Michael Gordon hasn't played since a 2-1 home defeat to Port Vale on December 1st.

It is strange that Sutton has occasionally moaned that he has no/little money to spend, yet then doesn't play the players he brings in with the money that he does have.

With the season coming to a close it is likely that very few of the out-of-contract players will be staying. It's already been confirmed that Musslewhite, Green and Kerr have been offered new deals, whereas it's obvious Burch will move on. Looking at it, there's no-one ese that is likely to stay.

Those out of contract at the end of this season (whether offered a new deal or not) : Brian Gilmour, Rob Burch, Sam Clucas, Paul Connor, Michael Gordon, Paul Green, Clark Keltie and Scott Kerr.

Unfortunately we're stuck with LJL for another year.

To be fair Baker came on in a game of switcheroo, in which Green went to Right Back and Hughton replaced Lennon at Right Midfield.

Sutton obviously regards Hughton as the better attacking option, although 15 minutes later we saw Baker playing up front in a 3-4-3. He did win a couple of headers up front; which Conner, Somma and LJL failed to do all day, but other than that it didn't make a lot of difference.

Joe Anderson was the best Lincoln player on the pitch for me. Saved us more than once, delivered more balls into the box than any other Lincoln player and rarely gave away possession.

As for the rest.

Burch didn't do anything wrong.
Back four never looked comfortable.
Herd was DNG without the ability to shoot.
Was Lennon on the pitch?
Conner was always going for the ball, but never actually winning it.
Somma looked good when the ball came to him, but didn't do enough to find it.

We deserved to come second and the only positive for me, was that it stopped raining at half-time, so I didn't get wet buying my Cheeseburger.

Good post cherry what frustrated me was every time lennon got the ball wide he ran into the middle where they seemed to always have about ten men.
Your positive was your cheesburger ours was the rack of ribs at the 2 4 1 just before the M69 tongue sticking out smiley

The byline says it is! It also contains a Nathan-like mistake where he said that Lennon "...need to go off" instead of 'needed' to go off.

It's Nathan this time. Of that I am sure.

The clincher is LJL comment at the end.
Sounds like Lennon was injured which is a shame but hopefully Gilmour will get another go as he did well before getting left out.
