Imps strike a problem at Rothehram

Lincoln City yet again failed to score, only forcing Rotherham's Andy Warrington into one save throughout the entire match. Despite spending most of the first half in Rotherham's half, the Imps could barely manage a shot on goal before an Adam Le Fondre double provided City with yet another defeat. Rotherham kicked off but an otherwise quiet opening 5 minutes came was interrupted by Anthony Pulis trying to recover a misplaced pass, receiving an injury in a collision with Sharps in the process and having to go off injured, replaced by Richard Butcher.

The Imps won a corner, but it was again wasted as Hughton hit it high over everyone's head and out for a goalkick. Infact, Kovacs was going to be heavily involved near both goals throughout the game, and his next one almost saw an own goal as a ball into City's box was swung at by Kovacs and sliced towards goal, luckily going slightly wide of the post and out for a corner. Rotherham wasted that corner and Kovacs cleared.

Shane Clarke burst through the Rotherham defence, but left himself too much to do with an ever decreasing angle, although he did force a corner, a corner which was unsurprisingly wasted. Ellison headed a chance wide for Rotherham.

It wasn't exactly a high-tempo game, but the Imps were generally the team on top, but more lacklusture defending allowed by Ellison and Le Fondre to get shots in on goal, only the superb Rob Burch preventing a goal.

The Imps quickly won a corner, but a wild Janos Kovacs swing at the ball resulted in it going 30 yards back upfield and fell to Le Fondre. The former Rochdale striker pounced on it, easily rounding Butcher before hitting a thunderous shot into the net from the edge of the area.

Kerr came close to a quickfire equaliser, attempting a lob from 25 yards and only a fine save from Warrington prevented a goal. Smith headed the resultant corner wide.

The second half was a considerably slower and less incident packed half. It was pretty much back and forth between the sides, neither being able to create anything and the first noteworthy incident saw Khano Smith being replaced by Rene Howe. Clarke had a shot blocked from the edge of the area.

Roberts came on for Harrison for Rotherham and it wasn't long before the hosts scored again, the ball being played in and a completely unmarked Le Fondre produced a fine bicycle kick to make it 2-0. He should have made it 3-0 two minutes later, but Janos Kovacs wasn't made to pay for conceding a penalty, Le Fondre hitting the resultant penalty wide.
