Top 20 Players : 18th - Luke Foster

Quite possibly the most unexpected inclusion in the Top 20 is Luke Foster. Foster only played 17 games for the Imps in the 2005/6 season, but did enough to be voted by the fans into the Top 20 of the 2000-2010 period. Not bad for a player who was often said to be the most under-rated during his time at Sincil Bank.

Luke Foster was one of Keith Alexander's second attempt at a revolution. Richard Butcher, Peter Gain, Ben Futcher, Gary Taylor-Fletcher, Simon Yeo, Ciaran Toner, Marcus Richardson and Kevin Sandwith had all been first team 
regulars that had left Sincil Bank during the pre-season and defensive midfielder Foster was deemed as a decent replacement.
He got off to a slow start, eventually making his debut in a 2-1 defeat at Notts County. The odd appearance here and there ended in October when he became a first team regular and impressed many. He remained reasonably consistently during the season, without ever being a regular appearance holder. He scored his only goal for the Imps will certainly be remembered, setting City on their way for a 5-0 win over Grimsby Town.
However, his City career ended a week later as he was injured at Darlington and never made an appearance for City again. After Alexander left, Schofield and Deehan refused to give Foster even the smallest look in. He joined York on loan before mutually agreeing to leave City. He initially joined Stalybridge Celtic but quickly linked up with Oxford United, remaining there ever since.
The fact Foster only made 17 appearances and yet received a place in 18 people's Top 11 of the last ten years says it all about his impressive displays, and he will probably make his return to Sincil Bank next season as he's helping Oxford to the Blue Square Title.
