Several months ago we asked you to think of your favourite players of the 2000-2010 period and after 133 people sending in votes, we can reveal that the 20th favourite player, featuring in 11 people's team as the goalkeeper, Chris Day.

Long before Paul Pettinger, Ben Smith and Ayden Duffy kept Alan Marriott out of the goal, Chris Day became the first man to remain in goal when Marriott was fully fit. Day had initially joined on loan from Graham Taylor's Watford for a month to cover Alan Marriott in 2000/1.

Things started off averagely, making his debut in a 1-1 draw with Rochdale, followed by a 3-0 defeat at Darlington and a 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe. However, his fine goalkeeping started to show in a 3-1 LDV Vans Trophy win over Blackpool. This was followed by a 2-0 win over promotion chasing Hull City, a game that saw Grant Brown suffer a broken leg.

Despite the Imps losing on a consistent basis, Day was winning many plaudits for some fine displays. His loan was extended twice as he helped the Imps to the Northern Final of the LDV Vans Trophy, however, he was also part of the Imps side that lost five matches in the row, including home defeats to Torquay, Macclesfield and Leyton Orient. This run saw Phil Stant sacked and replaced by Alan Buckley.

Buckley's first game in charge saw the Imps travel to Mansfield, City having not won on the road for 336 days. Buckley was faced with a tough choice, Marriott had long been back from injury, and with Day only having ten days left at the club, he had a tough choice of the long term keeper or the short term keeper who was performing well. He stuck with Day and it was well deserved. The Imps had taken a 3-0 lead at Mansfield, the Stags pulling it back to 3-2 before Day made some unbelievable stops to secure City a win.

Two League wins later and Day was faced with his final game as an Imps player, the LDV Vans Trophy Northern Final against Port Vale. Port Vale won 2-0 and Chris Day's days at Sincil Bank were over. He went back to Watford before joining QPR in the summer, helping them to promotion before going onto play for Preston, Oldham and Millwall. He now plays for Stevenage.
