Basic Morecambe get it all right against City

Morecambe put in an excellent performance to dominate a game against Lincoln. Getting all the basics right, it was little surprise that they were 3-0 up before the hour, but what was a surprise was not only did City actually score, but Rene Howe's ego allowed him to score from open play for only the second time this season.

The Imps started reasonably well with Rene Howe sending a header just wide of the bar and Chris Fagan soon had a shot deflected goalwards by Khano Smith, Ben Smith easily saving. The first half was slow with the hosts dominating most of the possession and it wasn't long before they started creating chances, Mullin wasting the first decent one as he headed wide.

Morecambe's bombardment of City's box finally paid dividends as Stewart Drummond headed in a quickly taken free kick, giving the hosts a deserved lead. It became two just before half time when Hone and Swaibu sandwiched Jevons in the box and the striker picked himself home to slot home the penalty.

A double change at half time saw Torres and Brown come on for Smith and Hone. Torres was straight into the action and was impressive with his imputous and will to try his hardest and he won a quick free kick, a free kick that was subsequently wasted. However, despite Torres bringing a more spirited feel to the performance, it was soon 3-0 as Neil Wainwright rounded Burch and tapped it for Mullin to tap in.

In some rare City attacks, both Howe and Brown booted the ball well over the bar, however, ten minutes from time and the Imps finally scored a goal, and more surprisingly, it was Rene Howe. The former Morecambe striker had only scored in one game from open play before this, but after good work from substitute Jamie Clarke, he booted the ball towards goal and it just went in.

It wasn't long before more action of Eric Lichaj and Laurance Wilson got into a tangle of feet, and after the feet became free, Lichaj aimed a kick at the former Chester man and he received a straight red. This resulted in a 22 man scuffle with Wilson, Bentley and Jamie Clarke all receiving yellow cards.

Neither side could muster another chance and the Imps went onto yet another defeat after yet another poor performance.
