Imps signing 2 Aston Villa stars

Lincoln City are on the verge of securing two loan signings from Aston Villa. Nathan Baker and Eric Lichaj are both defenders, with Lichaj playing in the left back position, a place that City have struggled to fill with an actual left back in recent years.

Lichaj will probably be the more vital of the two signings, slotting in at the left back position that is currently filled by Aaron Brown, a natural left midfielder. The youngster played in Aston Villa's pre-season defeat at Sincil Bank last season.

Baker plays in the centre half position and will be fighting for one of the two central defensive positions with Danny Hone, Janos Kovacs and Moses Swaibu, although the latter doesn't appear to feature in Sutton's long term plans as he's often the defender left out.

Both are likely to go straight into the squad for Saturday's game against Torquay.

Ok I can see the logic of a left back, but surely we need a striker and midfielder?

I always believe in starting at the back. If we don't concede we don't lose.

He's building a solid base and fair play to him for that.
Wonder if he let some of the squad go out on loan before the window shuts?
I think we have a very intelligent young manager here.

Hope they do well, and still think Sutton is a far better bet than Peter Jackson, but I personally don't think it is very intelligent to pay more money out in wages to 2 more defenders, neither of which is a recognised left-back, and clearly as our major problem over a very long period of time has been scoring goals and creating chances. Hone, Swaibu and Kovacs are decent centre-backs at this level and it must be said that even a tactical numbskull like Jackson managed to make our defence reasonably tight. We have conceded 1 goal in 3 games against in-form teams so I would have thought the last thing we need is more defenders. Couldn't we have saved our pennies and kept Torres or sorted out a longer deal, or even better, got a proven goalscorer in?

Lichaj played right back for us in pre season.

Nathan Baker is supposedly going to be a superb centre back in the future, probably too young atm, but Lichaj was excellent for us in pre-season against the likes of Porto and Juventus...

Rather get Andres Weimann, striker from Villa, he's excellent.
