Macclesfield Town fans must have short memories. Several comments after the match, such as a ref biased towards Lincoln, that despite Macclesfield having more than their fair share of controversial decisions in their favour down the years. Luckily it was the Imps turn to finally get a very fortunate penalty.

Down the years Macclesfield have been given penalties against the Imps for varying reasons, such as Shane Nicholson handballing 5 yards outside the box, and Clive Wijnhard collapsing under no challenge. However, Moss Rose has been a recent happy hunting ground for City, with the Imps winning on their last two visits before Saturday, both by a two-one scoreline.

The Imps looked far from a team that could win the game as Macclesfield dominated the first half. Rooney had the best chance for a Macclesfield side who haven't beat City since New Years Day in 2007. An early Rene Howe missed gave City a false dawn that chances would come on a regular basis for the Imps.

From that point onwards it was pretty much all Macclesfield in the first half, but Rooney's effort from 25 yards hit the bar in their best effort.

City came out brighter in the second half and the rejuvenated Stefan Oakes came close to scoring from 30 yards, seeing his brilliant effort produce an equally briilliant save from Brain.

With the game appearing to be heading for a goalless draw, the ball was floated into the box and Swaibu went down rather theatrically under a challenge from Brain, the referee giving a penalty which Howe slotted away.

From that point onwards it was effectively City sitting on the lead, but other than a late, late Bencharif effort, the Imps didn't really look like conceding.
